Injured Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith is progressing in his return from a torn triceps muscle, and will participate in practice this week.

“We’ll see where that practice takes us,” coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

A previous report said Smith was doubtful to play this week, but could be ready for the Super Bowl. Tomlin admits that Smith will likely be on a limited snap count if he suits up.

Most of the injury news for the Steelers was positive. Tackles Jonathan Scott and Flozell Adams, who both left Saturday’s game against Baltimore, will be ready to go. Special teams ace Will Allen (knee) and cornerback Bryant McFadden (abdominal strain) will both be limited this week. Allen sounds more likely to miss the game of the two players.

Of course, we can’t take what Tomlin says exactly at face value. Speaking on SIRIUS NFL Radio with Adam Schein Tuesday, Tomlin said that safety Troy Polamalu was completely healthy.

“He’s 100%,” Tomlin said. “And if he wasn’t i’d still say he’s 100%.”
