Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton signed an extension through the 2020 season, which allows him to focus on matters other than his deal over the coming years.
Hilton was glad to get some company in that regard when the Colts and quarterback Andrew Luck agreed to a contract that keeps Luck under club control through 2021. Hilton thinks that eliminating any thoughts about the contract will be a benefit to Luck on the field.
“It’s great. I know it’s a big burden lifted off his shoulders, getting the contract done,” Hilton said, via the Indianapolis Star. “Now he can just concentrate on football. It’s what he loves. That’s a big thing, just having him focused and ready to go.”
If being signed for multiple years has a beneficial effect on an offense, the Colts should be in good shape as Luck, Hilton, tight end Dwayne Allen and left tackle Anthony Castonzo all signed long-term deals in the last two years. If the Colts can find some defensive players worthy of the same commitment, the prospects for Indianapolis would look a bit brighter than they did while missing the playoffs last year.
