The Cardinals are replacing The Finger with the Honey Badger.

According to Darren Urban of the team’s official website, the Cardinals will start rookie Tyrann Mathieu at safety in the place of Rashad Johnson.

That wouldn’t be as big of a deal, except Johnson became a cult figure last week for losing part of a finger, and playing on. He had surgery to close up the grotesque wound on his left middle finger, and would have needed to play with a huge cast to be out there.

But the Cards are going to err on the side of caution, rather than putting a 9.5-fingered man out there.
