The Texans signed kicker Chris Freeman on Wednesday, the team announced.
Freeman will give veteran kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn a break.
He worked out for the team last week, along with kicker Will Ferrin and two punters, and also attended the team’s rookie minicamp.
Freeman is an undrafted free agent who played four college seasons at Indiana and two at Connecticut. In the past two seasons in Storrs, he made all 101 extra points and 43-of-52 field goals, with his 82.7 percent accuracy and 230 points leading the nation.
In a corresponding move, the Texans waived wide receiver Montrell Washington. He lasted a week in the team’s training camp.
Washington appeared in 15 regular-season games with the Broncos in 2022, catching four-of-nine targets for 2 yards while rushing five times for 30 yards.
