The Metrodome reinflation video

The inside of the Metrodome, home of the Minnesota Vikings NFL football team, is shown two minutes into the inflation of the new roof Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in Minneapolis. The original roof collapsed last December after a snowstorm dumped 17 inches of snow. The grey panels which are hanging are acoustic bats. (AP Photo/Jim Mone)

One of the most compelling pieces of video generated during the 2010 football season involved no football action. Instead, the video demonstrated the collapse of the roof of the Metrodome under the weight of a blizzard’s worth of snow.

Far less compelling but nevertheless worth watching is the footage of the inflation of the new roof, courtesy of our friends at KFAN.com.

It’s a time-lapse video that at one point makes us wonder whether the subtitle should be, “If this dome’s a rockin’, don’t come a knockin’.”

UPDATE: The Vikings have issued a statement regarding the inflation of the Metrodome. “We appreciate the efforts of the MSFC and the local unionized workforce who spent countless hours replacing the Metrodome roof since its collapse last December,” said Vikings president Mark Wilf. “Today’s roof inflation means the project is ahead of schedule and ensures that Mall of America Field will be the Vikings home during the 2011 season. We are excited about getting our home field advantage back and playing in front of Vikings fans this year.”
