The California Redwoods officially are dead; long live the Sacramento Mountain Lions.
The UFL has announced that the relocated franchise will be known for the beast that still inhabits the state in numbers of roughly 4,000 to 6,000.
“I am excited at the prospect of running onto the field at Hornet Stadium with a vibrant name and logo of the Mountain Lions on my chest,” said coach Dennis Green in a news release. “You can come up with all the attributes you like to tell the fans in Sacramento that we will be as agile, fast, powerful and dare I say it, as predatory as Mountain Lions, and we will prove it on the field when we take on our opponents in the United Football League this season.”
Of course, a Mountain Lion definitely is an upgrade for Green, whose last two teams were represented by a tree. And a bird.
