The Minnesota Vikings signed former San Francisco 49ers tight end Brian Leonhardt on Monday.
Leonhardt has appeared in 16 games over the last two seasons for the 49ers and Oakland Raiders after going undrafted out of Division II Bemidji State University in 2013. He caught six passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in his first season of action with the Raiders in 2014.
Leonhardt signed with the Cleveland Browns last July and spent the first half of the season on the team’s practice squad. After being released by Cleveland in November, he was signed to the 49ers practice squad and promoted to their active roster in December. He appeared in four games with one catch for four yards.
Tony Sparano coached Leonhardt last season as the 49ers tight end coach. He has now joined the Vikings’ staff as offensive line coach, bringing some familiarity between the two along to Minnesota.
