Jets quarterback Tim Boyle made his first start of the season on Friday, and the results were no better for Boyle than for the benched Zach Wilson. Boyle says he doesn’t know if he’ll get another chance to start.
Boyle said Jets coach Robert Saleh told the entire team after Friday’s loss to the Dolphins that he wants them doing what they can to help the team succeed, and that’s what Boyle will try to do.
“I have no clue what happens moving forward, but I can control what I can control and I know we’re going to go back, and Coach said it best at the end of the game in the locker room: We have to get our minds right to have the best six weeks of our life moving forward,” Boyle said. “We have six more games, we’re going to put our best foot forward and we’re going to try to win all six. We’re going to keep pushing, we’re going to keep fighting on offense.”
Boyle managed just 179 yards on 27-of-38 passing, he threw two interceptions and he was sacked seven times in the 34-13 loss. His performance on Friday suggested the same thing as his previous performances in brief stints with the Packers, Lions and Bears have suggested: He just isn’t good enough to be an NFL starting quarterback.
Saleh said only “I’m not there yet” when asked after the game if Trevor Seimian might start next week. Siemian really couldn’t be any worse than Boyle and Wilson have been.
