When Tony Romo was walking to the locker room after injuring his left shoulder in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the Eagles, FOX cameras caught him saying “it’s broken” to the medical staff accompanying him off the field.
Romo was correct. The Cowboys announced before the quarter was out that Romo fractured his left clavicle when he was sacked by Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks.
It’s not surprising that Romo had an inkling about the injury. He suffered the same one in a game against the Giants in 2010 and missed the final 10 games of the season while he was recovering. There’s been no timeline given for Romo’s absence this time around, but it won’t be brief and early estimates to PFT put it at eight weeks.
That will leave the Cowboys to figure out how to score points without Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant, who broke a bone in his foot in Week One. Tight end Jason Witten also received medical attention on the sideline in the third quarter, so there’s not much going right for the Cowboys offense right now.
Thanks to an Eagles offense that can’t blame injuries for their total ineffectiveness, they still lead 13-3 in the fourth quarter.
