With the Seahawks seemingly having moved on from the idea of Tarvaris Jackson as a backup quarterback, the opportunity to seize a job for Trevone Boykin and Jake Heaps as Russell Wilson’s backup has been wide open.
After doing little through most of the contest to leave a mark, Boykin led Seattle on a pair of scoring drives in the final five minutes and brought the Seahawks from behind for a 17-16 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
Boykin capped a frantic 88-yard touchdown drive with a 37-yard Hail Mary to Tanner McEvoy on the final play of the game to pull Seattle within one, 16-15. After a 12-men in the defensive huddle penalty on Kansas City, Troymaine Pope scored on a two-point conversion to give the Seahawks the win.
Boykin had completed just 12 of 22 passes for 100 yards while playing the largest portion of the game among Seattle’s three quarterbacks.
He connected with Montario Hunter for 18 yards and McEvoy for 32 yards to move into Chiefs’ territory. After a 1-yard completion to Uzoma Nwachukwu, Boykin’s last second heave gave Seattle the victory.
Heaps was just 3 of 10 for 33 yards during his limited action late in the third quarter and early fourth quarter.
