Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson carries the team’s franchise tag for 2016. Last week, Johnson got tagged in a different way. (Yeah, that’s lame.)

Coach Jeff Fisher told reporters on Thursday that Johnson had a collision in practice last week that left him injured. Fisher, however, made it clear that Johnson will be ready to go when training camp starts.

“If we were going to practice tomorrow, he would practice tomorrow,” Fisher said. “That gives you a sense. He’ll be fine. He’s running, he’s training. He’s just struggling with getting the helmet on right now because . . . the contact, the collision was a free collision and he had a laceration and his jaw got rocked a little bit, but he’ll be fine.”

Somewhat surprisingly, the transcript circulated by the team left the word “contact” in there. It’s a word Fisher quickly dumped during his comment for “collision,” since “contact” is supposedly prohibited in offseason workouts.

Of course, a collision is contact. But the collision may have been inadvertent. Regardless, it was enough to leave Johnson with a cut and a jaw that “got rocked” enough to make it difficult to get his helmet on.
