The Bills’ quarterback competition has turned into a two-man race between Tyrod Taylor and Matt Cassel, with EJ Manuel now a distant third. So who’s winning between Taylor and Cassel?
It appears to be Taylor, based on the comments of General Manager Doug Whaley, who noted that the Bills’ offense was at its best in the preseason opener when Taylor got on the field with the second-string offense. The Bills scored touchdowns on their first two possessions after Taylor entered the game.
“It’s a production-based business. He produced with the twos so we’re excited for him to get in there Thursday with the ones to see what he can do. Everybody knows what he can do with his feet. But I’m impressed with a couple of his throws. He’s got everything you’re looking for. We just have to make sure he can produce when his time’s called,” Whaley said, via the Buffalo News.
As perhaps the fastest quarterback in the NFL, Taylor provides a running threat that Cassel lacks. Although Cassel has much more experience than Taylor and may be more refined as a passer, Taylor has a higher upside. With Taylor starting on Thursday against the Browns, he has an opportunity to show that he deserves to keep the job for good.
