The Vikings knew Adrian Peterson was going to miss most, if not all of the season after knee surgery.

They submitted the paperwork to make it official today, putting the former MVP running back on injured reserve.

The Vikings could always activate him later, but that couldn’t happen before Week 11 now, and would preclude them from activating any of their other injured players.

It’s also unclear if he’d be able to come back late in the season or for the playoffs, after surgery to repair a torn meniscus.

That’s also calling into question his future with the team, which has made aggressive moves to stay competitive after losing quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to a knee injury, among many others.
