It was eight days ago that PFT’s Mike Florio first reported that Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson would report to the team on October 29 and sign his restricted free agent tender.
And wouldn’t you know, Jackson actually showed up.
“I’m happy Vincent is here,” said General Manager A.J. Smith in a statement. “I have no doubt he will go to work, work hard and quickly get into game-shape. Once he starts playing in games, I don’t think it will take him long for him to be a contributor and help us.”
Jackson said that he “missed football more than you can imagine. Right now I’m just looking forward to being able to practice and get back on the field. My only concern is doing whatever I can to contribute and help the team win. The future will take care of itself.”
The Chargers could sure use Jackson right now. While their wideout play is far down the team’s list of problems this year, they are without “starters” Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee again this week.
Because Jackson is on the roster exempt list, he’s not eligible to play in San Diego’s next three games. That means his 2010 debut should come November 28 against the Colts.
That’s scheduled to be a Sunday night game, but the 2-5 Chargers probably need to win their next three games to stay in reasonable playoff contention and avoid being “flexed” out of primetime.
