New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker is going through the difficult process of rehabilitating a surgically repaired knee and a surgically repaired shoulder this offseason. But the offseason hasn’t all been so bad for Welker: He also got to visit the Playboy Mansion.
Unfortunately, Welker says, a picture of him wearing a bathrobe and standing next to playmate Ashley Dupre -- the woman at the center of the prostitution scandal that ensnared former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer -- has given fans the wrong idea.
“It’s funny, man,” Welker told Ian R. Rapoport of the Boston Herald. “I’ve been working so hard, and it’s like, ‘Oh, Wes is rehabbing at the Playboy Mansion or something.’ I’m like, ‘Dude, it’s one night.’ ”
Welker said he didn’t know who Dupre was when he posed for the picture and that even his own mother has gotten on his case about it.
Now, he says, Welker is considering his visit to the Playboy Mansion to be “Probably my last.”
