Wiegmann wants to play a 14th season, if Chiefs will have him

Someday, they’ll probably throw out a grappling hook and snag Wiegmann by his tough old hide. Howling in protest. Chiefs center Casey Wiegmann’s contract is up and he is 38 years old, so there was reason to believe he might call it a career this offseason.

Wiegmann’s agent has cleared up his client’s intentions. The 13-year veteran wants to continue playing football, so long as Wiegmann can do it in Kansas City.

Agent Joe Linta told ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson that Wiegmann is “in the best shape he’s been in years,” and Williamson confirms that the Chiefs are likely to be interested in bringing him back. Wiegmann is still playing at a high level with incredible durability. He hasn’t missed a snap since 2001.

The Chiefs drafted center of the future Rodney Hudson with the 55th overall pick, but Hudson’s development has been stalled by the lockout. Hudson was strictly a guard at Florida State, and still needs to learn the new position.

Wiegmann played last season on a one-year, $2 million contract. He can probably expect a similar offer from Kansas City after the lockout ends.
