Sergeant Bryan Dilberian lost three limbs in an explosion in Afghanistan three years ago. With the help of New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, he’s getting a new “smart home” to better accommodate his needs.
According to Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press, Johnson donated $1 million to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation for its “Building for America’s Bravest” program. The money donated will build two modified homes, including one for Dilberian.
Dilberian lost both legs and an arm when an improvised explosive device exploded. The blast killed a few others and maimed Dilberian.
The 2,800-foot, three bedroom home will be customized to meet Dilberian’s needs and feature the ability to control various aspects through the use of an iPad.
“It’s going to mean everything to me,” Dilberian said. “I’m not going to be relying on nurses coming to the house. I don’t have to rely on just, people just coming to help me. I love to cook. Now, this is going to give me the fundamentals to cook again.”
