The 49ers feasted on three Seahawks’ turnovers in the first half, taking a 21-13 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Seahawks now lead 23-21.
Sam Darnold opened the second half by throwing a second interception to cornerback Renardo Green, but the 49ers couldn’t take advantage of their fourth takeaway. Eddy Pineiro missed a 52-yard field goal.
The Seahawks used the good field position for a 43-yard field goal by Jason Myers.
Only 3:04 later, Seattle had the lead.
Brock Purdy was picked by Nehemiah Pritchett, who returned the interception to the San Francisco 23. It set up Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 16-yard touchdown reception.
Purdy is 10-of-19 for 93 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and Darnold is 11-of-19 for 112 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
The 49ers forced three turnovers, leading to two short touchdown drives and a defensive score, and they sacked Sam Darnold four times in the first half. The visitors lead the Seahawks 21-13 at halftime.
The 49ers, though, will have to play the rest of the game without linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was ejected with 6:04 remaining in the second quarter. Greenlaw chased Darnold out of bounds and then headbutted a helmetless Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the sideline.
The 49ers had a four-play, 18-yard touchdown drive after Renardo Green’s interception of Darnold on third down on a pass intended for Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Mike Evans scored on a 2-yard reception.
They had a one-play, 11-yard drive after Fred Warner forced a fumble by Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson and Malik Mustapha recovered. Christian McCaffrey scored on the next play.
The Seahawks’ third turnover, a fumble by running back George Holani, was forced by rookie Gracen Halton and recovered in the end zone by Halton with 13 seconds left in the half. Coach Mike Macdonald will face a postgame question about why he didn’t take a knee, though the 49ers had all their timeouts.
The Seahawks’ touchdown came on only a 24-yard drive after Jacob Cowing muffed a punt that Eric Saubert recovered. Wilson scored on a 2-yard run.
The Seahawks also had field goals of 49 and 50 yards from Jason Myers.
The 49ers outgained the Seahawks 112 to 110 in a defensive battle with seven punts, five by San Francisco.
Brock Purdy is 8-of-14 for 81 yards and a touchdown, with Evans catching three for 38 and a touchdown. McCaffrey has six carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Darnold is 8-of-14 for 79 yards with an interception, and Smith-Njigba has two catches for 42 yards. Wilson has 11 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown.
The 49ers lead the Seahawks 14-10, but they will have to play the rest of the game without linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
Greenlaw was ejected with 6:04 remaining when he headbutted a helmetless Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the sideline.
Greenlaw forced Sam Darnold out of bounds after a 5-yard scramble, putting him in the middle of the Seahawks sideline. Jones said something to Greenlaw, who headbutted Jones.
The 15-yard penalty moved the Seahawks to the San Francisco 32.
Greenlaw was ejected during a Dec. 3, 2023, game against the Eagles when he scuffled with Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro. The NFL suspended him for one game last season when he played for the Broncos for unsportsmanlike conduct after he chased after referee Brad Allen “and verbally threatened him.”
Last week, the NFL fined Greenlaw $11,941 for taunting the Broncos’ sideline.
Thus, Greenlaw could be facing another suspension.
The 49ers scored a touchdown after a gift from Sam Darnold. The Seahawks scored a touchdown after a gift from Jacob Cowing.
The 49ers’ punt returner muffed Michael Dickson’s punt and Eric Saubert recovered at the San Francisco 24. Six plays later, the Seahawks tied it up 7-7.
Emanuel Wilson ran it in from the 2.
Darnold is now 4-of-6 for 21 yards and a pick. Renardo Green had the interception on a third-down pass intended for Jaxon Smith-Njigba, giving the 49ers the ball at the Seattle 18. Mike Evans scored on a 2-yard reception from Brock Purdy.
Purdy is 2-of-7 for 15 yards and a touchdown.
It was a rough start for Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold was sacked for a 7-yard loss by linebacker Jaden Dugger on second down and was intercepted by Renardo Green on third down on a pass intended for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The 49ers needed only four plays to go 18 yards to the end zone.
Mike Evans caught a 13-yard pass to the Seattle 2 and scored on the next play.
It is his third touchdown of the season.
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is 2-of-5 for 15 yards and a touchdown after going three-and-out with two incompletions on the first possession.
The 49ers will have tight end George Kittle for today’s game against the Seahawks after coming down with an illness.
Kittle is not on the team’s inactive list, as expected.
Defensive end Mykel Williams will make his 2026 debut after working his way back from a knee injury that ended his 2025 season. Cornerback Upton Stout will also play after being listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.
The 49ers already had ruled out defensive lineman Nick Bosa (knee/calf), defensive lineman James Thompson Jr. (ankle), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (knee and safety Marques Sigle (ankle). Linebacker Tatum Bethune, offensive lineman Enrique Cruz and quarterback Kurtis Rourke are the other inactives.
The Seahawks’ inactives are quarterback Jalen Milroe, running back Robert Henry Jr., linebacker Chazz Surratt (calf), wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. and tight end Nick Kallerup. Milroe will serve as the emergency third quarterback.
The tailback-needy Seahawks turned last week to a receiver who has a history of playing the running back position. And Rashid Shaheed delivered.
Shaheed told reporters this week that he played tailback in high school and college. He made the switch to receiver during his sophomore season at Weber State.
“Once I figured out that I wasn’t going to be a big person, I made that decision that I didn’t want to get hit by linebackers,” Shaheed said.
First, they have to catch him. On his 28-yard touchdown run last week against the Chargers, no one touched him.
“I liked it a lot,” Shaheed said. “It was something that we’ve been trying to key in on for a few weeks now, and to get it ran and executed was really fun.”
He said it was harder to go from running back to receiver than receiver to running back.
“As a running back, you can just get the ball and make something happen,” Shaheed said. “As a receiver, there are so many other things that need to happen around the play for you to get the ball. I feel like I am still continuing to learn at the receiver position knowing I was late to the party.”
Shaheed clearly wants to play some more tailback for the Seahawks.
“Just any chance I can get to have the ball in my hands,” Shaheed said. “Growing up playing running back allows me to have a different feel for the game, and I give that a lot of credit.”
The best part for Shaheed is that he’s getting paid like a receiver. In fact, his three-year deal pays out $17 million per year from signing; that’s more than the average annual value of the Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs contracts, when assessed not in new-money terms but from the moment pen was put to paper.
The NFL’s announced Week 4 fines featured a season-high 10 infractions for player safety fouls that qualify toward a possible suspension.
Ravens linebacker Trenton Simpson was fined $17,911 for a horsecollar tackle.
Browns defensive tackle Adin Huntington ($5,620), Lions linebacker Jack Campbell ($15,930), Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick ($17,911), Jets defensive end Darrell Jackson ($6,683) and Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori ($14,648) were fined for hip-drop tackles.
Cowboys cornerback Reddy Steward ($5,583), Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter ($13,639) and Rams linebacker Nate Landman ($11,111) were fined for a hit on a defenseless player.
Broncos offensive lineman Ben Powers was docked $17,911 for a blindside block.
Three fines in any one category trigger an automatic one-game suspension. Players can appeal the fines.
The 49ers activated defensive lineman Mykel Williams from the reserve/physically unable to perform list, the team announced Saturday.
Williams injured his knee in a Nov. 2 game against the Giants, ending his rookie season after nine games. He totaled 20 tackles and a sack.
Williams required surgery to repair an ACL tear and meniscus damage in his right knee.
The 49ers re-signed Ogbo Okoronkwo to the practice squad a day after cutting him from the active roster. The move was made to get Williams on the 53-player roster.
The 49ers elevated Okoronkwo and tight end Jack Stoll from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.
Okoronkwo has appeared in four games with one start and has registered two tackles and a sack.
Cornerback Trevon Diggs made his Seahawks debut last Sunday and he moved up to the active roster on a lasting basis Saturday.
The Seahawks announced that they have signed Diggs to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. He was elevated on a temporary basis last weekend and played nine defensive snaps.
Diggs was a 2020 second-round pick in Dallas and made first-team All-Pro his second season, but knee issues sidetracked him in recent seasons. He remained with the team until he was waived last season. He played one game for the Packers and was released in January.
Diggs has 242 tackles, 20 interceptions, a sack, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for his career.
The Seahawks placed rookie cornerback Julian Neal (hamstring) on injured reserve. They also downgraded wide receiver Irv Charles from questionable to out. Charles is on injured reserve and will need to be activated before he can play in a game.
