Seattle Seahawks
49ers wide receiver Mike Evans terrorized the Seahawks with seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. He also caught a two-point conversion that gave the 49ers a 29-26 lead with 11:02 remaining.
It was Evans’ best game in a 49ers uniform.
Evans also agitated Seahawks cornerback Trevon Diggs, something he has done to other players in the league in his 13 seasons.
Evans was seen on the Fox broadcast turning around to face Diggs, who was chirping at him. Evans turned Diggs’ shoulder to get a look at his nameplate before walking off.
“I was blocking him to the whistle, and then he said something like, I’m ‘doing extra,’ or something like that,” Evans said after the 49ers’ 32-29 win over the Seahawks. “And I didn’t know that was him at first, because I played against him a few times, and we always been cool. He was a good player. And I honestly didn’t know it was him because in the helmet, it’s hard to tell sometimes. And we were talking trash, and I think I pushed him, and then I was like, ‘Who are you?’ I looked to make sure, ‘Oh, it’s fucking Diggs.’ And then he mushed me. It should have been a penalty [on Diggs]. It is what it is.”
In his second game with the Seahawks, Diggs had no stats. Diggs was on the team’s practice squad until Saturday when the Seahawks signed him to the active roster.
Evans’ teammates got a kick out of his exchange with Diggs.
“It’s pretty funny,” Trent Williams said, via Matt Lively of CBS Sports Bay Area. “That’s what it says. Mike plays with an edge. He plays with a huge edge, something you wouldn’t expect a receiver to have. But that was pretty funny.”
Seahawks Clips
The 5-0 49ers had to play without linebacker Dre Greenlaw for more than two quarters. Next Monday night against the Commanders, they could be missing him for all four quarters.
Greenlaw’s ejection for head-butting Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV (who wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time) could result in a suspension.
The NFL will review the situation on Monday for potential discipline. And that discipline could include preventing Greenlaw from playing in Week 6.
The play itself was inherently unsafe. While not the same as the time when then-Browns defensive end Myles Garrett struck still-Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his own helmet, striking someone who isn’t wearing a helmet in the head with a helmet should be a bright line, when it comes to discipline.
Then there’s Greenlaw’s history. He has now been ejected three times. In 2022, Greenlaw was sent to the showers prematurely for an illegal hit on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. In 2023, Greenlaw was tossed after a sideline incident that first introduced a national audience to the legend known widely as Big Dom.
Last year, Greenlaw was suspended for one game, as a result of his post-game interactions with referee Brad Allen following a game between the Giants and the Broncos, for whom Greenlaw played in 2025. And, just last week, Greenlaw had some harsh post-game words for Denver coach Sean Payton after a Broncos-49ers game. (Greenlaw was fined for taunting during the game.)
If a suspension will be imposed, it likely will happen on Monday. An expedited appeal would follow.
The Seahawks and 49ers played a classic Sunday afternoon.
San Francisco escaped with a 32-29 victory, giving the 49ers a 5-0 record under Kyle Shanahan for the third time. The Seahawks dropped to 3-2.
It was a chippy, physical, defensive battle with seven turnovers, 520 yards and eight sacks. The teams were a combined 7-of-24 on third down.
49ers kicker Eddy Pineiro made a 44-yard field goal with 1:56 remaining for the deciding points, though the Seahawks made it interesting.
With the Seahawks at midfield, All-Pro wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba dropped a third-down pass at the San Francisco 25-yard line with 54 seconds left. It set up a fourth-and-10, and Cooper Kupp caught a pass on the sideline and dove for the marker. It was close, but officials ruled he was just short of the first down and replay upheld it.
The 49ers scored 21 points off four Seattle turnovers, with drives of 18 and 11 yards and defensive end Gracen Halton’s recovery of George Holani’s fumble in the end zone. Pineiro missed a second-half field goal on Renardo Green’s second pick of Sam Darnold.
The Seahawks scored 14 points off three 49ers’ turnovers on 24 and 23 yards.
The 49ers outgained the Seahawks 269 to 251, with Brock Purdy going 19-of-29 for 189 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Mike Evans starred with seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Christian McCaffrey had 11 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown and three catches for 15 yards.
Darnold was 18-of-29 for 195 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Smith-Njigba caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Emanuel Wilson had 20 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown and lost a fumble.
Seahawks kicker Jason Myers was good on field goals of 49, 50, 43, 48 and 40 yards.
49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel injured his hamstring on a runing play Sunday. The 49ers quickly ruled him out.
Samuel stepped awkwardly when trying to get around the corner. He fell awkwardly and dropped the ball on the way to the ground. Cornerback Josh Jobe recovered for the Seahawks at the San Francisco 36.
It led to a Jason Myers’ field goal, and the Seahawks now lead 26-21.
The 49ers have also lost wide receiver Jacob Cowing, who is questionable with an ankle injury.
Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks and Jordan Watkins are the only healthy wide receivers the 49ers have left.
Samuel has two catches for 21 yards and two runs for 4 yards and a lost fumble. Cowing has one catch for 9 yards and a lost fumble on a punt return.
The Seahawks have lost four turnovers and the 49ers three.
The 49ers feasted on three Seahawks’ turnovers in the first half, taking a 21-13 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Seahawks now lead 23-21.
Sam Darnold opened the second half by throwing a second interception to cornerback Renardo Green, but the 49ers couldn’t take advantage of their fourth takeaway. Eddy Pineiro missed a 52-yard field goal.
The Seahawks used the good field position for a 43-yard field goal by Jason Myers.
Only 3:04 later, Seattle had the lead.
Brock Purdy was picked by Nehemiah Pritchett, who returned the interception to the San Francisco 23. It set up Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 16-yard touchdown reception.
Purdy is 10-of-19 for 93 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and Darnold is 11-of-19 for 112 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
The 49ers forced three turnovers, leading to two short touchdown drives and a defensive score, and they sacked Sam Darnold four times in the first half. The visitors lead the Seahawks 21-13 at halftime.
The 49ers, though, will have to play the rest of the game without linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was ejected with 6:04 remaining in the second quarter. Greenlaw chased Darnold out of bounds and then headbutted a helmetless Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the sideline.
The 49ers had a four-play, 18-yard touchdown drive after Renardo Green’s interception of Darnold on third down on a pass intended for Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Mike Evans scored on a 2-yard reception.
They had a one-play, 11-yard drive after Fred Warner forced a fumble by Seahawks running back Emanuel Wilson and Malik Mustapha recovered. Christian McCaffrey scored on the next play.
The Seahawks’ third turnover, a fumble by running back George Holani, was forced by rookie Gracen Halton and recovered in the end zone by Halton with 13 seconds left in the half. Coach Mike Macdonald will face a postgame question about why he didn’t take a knee, though the 49ers had all their timeouts.
The Seahawks’ touchdown came on only a 24-yard drive after Jacob Cowing muffed a punt that Eric Saubert recovered. Wilson scored on a 2-yard run.
The Seahawks also had field goals of 49 and 50 yards from Jason Myers.
The 49ers outgained the Seahawks 112 to 110 in a defensive battle with seven punts, five by San Francisco.
Brock Purdy is 8-of-14 for 81 yards and a touchdown, with Evans catching three for 38 and a touchdown. McCaffrey has six carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Darnold is 8-of-14 for 79 yards with an interception, and Smith-Njigba has two catches for 42 yards. Wilson has 11 carries for 29 yards and a touchdown.
The 49ers lead the Seahawks 14-10, but they will have to play the rest of the game without linebacker Dre Greenlaw.
Greenlaw was ejected with 6:04 remaining when he headbutted a helmetless Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV on the sideline.
Greenlaw forced Sam Darnold out of bounds after a 5-yard scramble, putting him in the middle of the Seahawks sideline. Jones said something to Greenlaw, who headbutted Jones.
The 15-yard penalty moved the Seahawks to the San Francisco 32.
Greenlaw was ejected during a Dec. 3, 2023, game against the Eagles when he scuffled with Eagles chief security officer Dom DiSandro. The NFL suspended him for one game last season when he played for the Broncos for unsportsmanlike conduct after he chased after referee Brad Allen “and verbally threatened him.”
Last week, the NFL fined Greenlaw $11,941 for taunting the Broncos’ sideline.
Thus, Greenlaw could be facing another suspension.
The 49ers scored a touchdown after a gift from Sam Darnold. The Seahawks scored a touchdown after a gift from Jacob Cowing.
The 49ers’ punt returner muffed Michael Dickson’s punt and Eric Saubert recovered at the San Francisco 24. Six plays later, the Seahawks tied it up 7-7.
Emanuel Wilson ran it in from the 2.
Darnold is now 4-of-6 for 21 yards and a pick. Renardo Green had the interception on a third-down pass intended for Jaxon Smith-Njigba, giving the 49ers the ball at the Seattle 18. Mike Evans scored on a 2-yard reception from Brock Purdy.
Purdy is 2-of-7 for 15 yards and a touchdown.
It was a rough start for Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold.
Darnold was sacked for a 7-yard loss by linebacker Jaden Dugger on second down and was intercepted by Renardo Green on third down on a pass intended for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
The 49ers needed only four plays to go 18 yards to the end zone.
Mike Evans caught a 13-yard pass to the Seattle 2 and scored on the next play.
It is his third touchdown of the season.
49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is 2-of-5 for 15 yards and a touchdown after going three-and-out with two incompletions on the first possession.
The 49ers will have tight end George Kittle for today’s game against the Seahawks after coming down with an illness.
Kittle is not on the team’s inactive list, as expected.
Defensive end Mykel Williams will make his 2026 debut after working his way back from a knee injury that ended his 2025 season. Cornerback Upton Stout will also play after being listed as questionable with a shoulder injury.
The 49ers already had ruled out defensive lineman Nick Bosa (knee/calf), defensive lineman James Thompson Jr. (ankle), fullback Kyle Juszczyk (knee and safety Marques Sigle (ankle). Linebacker Tatum Bethune, offensive lineman Enrique Cruz and quarterback Kurtis Rourke are the other inactives.
The Seahawks’ inactives are quarterback Jalen Milroe, running back Robert Henry Jr., linebacker Chazz Surratt (calf), wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr. and tight end Nick Kallerup. Milroe will serve as the emergency third quarterback.
