Vikings completed the second round of interviews for their general manager vacancy.
The list of finalists includes Vikings executive vice president of football operations and interim general manager Rob Brzezinski, Broncos assistant general manager Reed Burckhardt, Bills assistant general manager Terrance Gray, Rams assistant general manager John McKay and Seahawks assistant general manager Nolan Teasley. Per The Athletic’s Alec Lewis, it “remains unclear whether or not ownership wants to do more due diligence, most have expected a resolution late May/early June.”
  • LA Assistant GM
The Vikings will interview five finalists for the general manager vacancy next week.
The Vikings have already conducted interviews with 10 candidates virtually. The five finalists are Rams assistant general manager John McKay, Broncos assistant general manager Reed Burckhardt, Bills assistant general manager Terrance Gray, Seahawks assistant general manager Nolan Teasley and Vikings executive vice president of football operations and interim general manager Rob Brzezinski. Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf previously indicated that the team plans to employ the front office structure as they have in the past, though The Athletic’s Alec Lewis highlights a reader’s question about whether the Vikings might keep Brzezinski in a managerial role and also hire a “personnel guy” under him to help with roster decisions. If so, it seems plausible that some candidates might prefer to wait until they have a chance to run an organization their own way.
  • LAC Assistant GM
Vikings requested an interview with Chargers assistant general manager Chad Alexander for the team’s general manager vacancy.
Alexander was a finalist for the Dolphins’ general manager vacancy earlier this offseason. Rams assistant general manager John McKay and Seahawks assistant general manager Nolan Teasley are also candidates for the role, and per ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, Vikings executive vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski “has expressed interest in the job.” Seifert notes that all external candidates come from a scouting background.
  • DEN General Manager
ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reports there are “no indications” Broncos GM George Paton is on his way out or wants to leave Denver.
Vikings owner Mark Wilf, who spoke at the Owner’s Meetings this week, “spoke in decidedly neutral terms when asked about Brzezinski’s future” per Seifert. It appears the Vikings will not get the easy solution here and instead will have to actually work to find a new general manager after the draft.
  • MIN General Manager
Vikings named Rob Brzezinski their interim general manager.
This will be effective through the 2026 NFL Draft. Brzezinski has worked with the Vikings since 1999 as the vice president of football administration and later the executive vice president of football operations. He seems likely to have a little lap in the sun here while the Vikings figure out who their next general manager will be. Wikipedia cites a Minneapolis Star-Tribune item that notes: “Brzezinski is known by staff as “Rob Zombie” due to being calm, quiet, and frankly, a downright savage. He is someone Marshawn Lynch would refer to as “Beast Mode.” And of course, you know that’s all true and definitely what was written in the article.
