  • TB Guard #64
Packers selected Ole Miss OG Royce Newman with the No. 142 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Already 23, Newman (6'5/310) started for two years at Ole Miss, spending the first at left guard before sliding over to right tackle in 2020. In the NFL, Newman is expected to kick back inside to guard. That is where the Packers announced him. Newman did not earn any accolades during his time in Oxford but at least he proved positional flexibility, which will be a plus. At tackle, Newman showed off baseline movement skills, as well as the ability to track targets effectively in space both in the pass game and run game. Play strength is where Newman falls short. Newman’s anchor is not inspiring, nor is his muscle in the run game. That could be an issue at guard, but it’s possible Newman’s movement skills could still be enough to make him a decent blocker.

  • TB Guard #64
Mississippi redshirt senior OL Royce Newman accepted an invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl.
After making 12 starts at left guard in 2019, Newman (6'6/310) has shifted out to right tackle in 2020. The redshirt senior offensive lineman has been a mainstay in the starting lineup for the Rebels during his last two seasons on Oxford. Newman is expected to move back inside at the NFL level, and he’s listed as an interior lineman by the Senior Bowl. He projects to be an undrafted free agent, but there’s a chance that Newman sneaks into the back end of Day 3 of this spring’s draft.
