Vikings signed sixth-round LB Rufus Alexander.
The Oklahoma product has good short-area quickness and is a tailor-made Cover 2 linebacker. He could struggle at the point of attack. Minnesota’s linebacker crew is fairly thin, so Alexander should make the team as a rookie and compete for a bigger role in 2008.

Vikings LB Jason Glenn suffered an apparently serious knee injury during training camp practice Wednesday.
Glenn, who’s coming off an ACL tear, may have had an on-field setback. Rookie Rufus Alexander should move up to second string on the strong side.
  • DET Linebacker
Vikings LB Rufus Alexander was carted off the field Friday night.
Alexander, who was converted to the strong side by Minnesota during camp after a stellar career at Oklahoma, injured his right knee in the game. Vikings coach Brad Childress should update his status by Monday morning.
  • DET Linebacker
Vikings LB Rufus Alexander reportedly suffered a torn ACL in Friday’s game. He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.
The 2006 Big Twelve Defensive Player of the Year has gotten off to a rough start in his career, falling to the sixth round of the draft after a poor Combine and now this. Alexander may be a long shot for a roster spot in 2008.
  • DET Linebacker
    Colts waived LB Rufus Alexander.
The club saw more potential in undrafted rookie Michael Tauiliili.
  • DET Linebacker
    Lions signed LB Rufus Alexander.
Alexander is a third-year pro that spent most of last season on the Vikings’ practice squad. The Lions are thin at linebacker heading into Saturday’s preseason game with Ernie Sims (ribs) and Darnell Bing (shoulder) on the sidelines. Don’t expect Alexander to stick around too long.
  • DET Linebacker
Vikings waived LB Rufus Alexander, LB David Herron Jr., WR Nate Jones, CB Brandon Sumrall, and DE Chris Norwell.
Alexander was the 2006 Big 12 Defensive POY, but slow forty times and ACL injuries have his NFL stock swimming. Herron was a special teamer.
  • DET Linebacker
Vikings backup LB and special teams ace Vinny Ciurciu injured his knee during Sunday’s game against the Panthers.
Despite being carted off during the game, Ciurciu was seen walking around the locker room Monday. He had an MRI, but the results aren’t yet known. The team re-signed Rufus Alexander to the practice squad just in case.
  • DET Linebacker
Vikings signed LB Rufus Alexander off their practice squad and waived LB Erin Henderson.
Henderson, an undrafted rookie, played well on special teams in the first six games but was late to a practice last week and pays for it now. Alexander will take his spot as a backup outside ‘backer and in kickoff coverage.
  • FA Linebacker
Vikings re-signed LB Erin Henderson and waived LB Rufus Alexander.
Minnesota made the opposite move prior to Week 7, promoting Alexander from the practice squad and waiving Henderson.
