The Athletic’s Charlotte Carrol reports Giants QB Russell Wilson did not tell the team about a hamstring injury he sustained in Week 2.
Wilson, 37, suffered what he described as a Grade 2 hamstring injury ahead of New York’s Week 2 game against the Cowboys. He said he felt he could not inform the team of the injury and kept it under wraps before throwing for 450 yards and three touchdowns against the Cowboys. “I couldn’t tell anybody,” Wilson said. “I had to go and play on it just because I knew the circumstances. I had to play on it, no matter what. I actually ended up going to the Dallas Mavericks’ facility, training. And, you know, just kept it quiet, just trying to get treatment on it and just knowing that I probably couldn’t run from the goal line to the 10-yard line if I wanted to, but I feel like, you know, I got to play that game.” Wilson lost the starting gig to Jaxson Dart, as expected, and will likely play elsewhere in 2026. Wilson said he wants to continue playing into his age-38 season.
  • NYG Quarterback #3
Russell Wilson is inactive for Week 18 against the Cowboys, ending his season.
Wilson will end his first, and likely only, season in New York with just three starts and six appearances. He completed 69-of-119 passes (58 percent completion rate) for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also took 10 sacks and had his worst QBR and overall quarterback rating of his career. Wilson will be a free agent this offseason and is unlikely to be signed into a clear starting job. He will almost certainly need to compete for, and win, a job if the 37-year-old wants to continue his playing career.
  • NYG Tight End #84
Giants declared TE Theo Johnson, WR Jalin Hyatt, RB Dante Miller, CB Cor’Dale Flott, OLB Caleb Murphy, DL Rakeem Nuñez-Roches and QB Russell Wilson inactive for Week 17 against the Raiders.
The Giants threw the ball 13 times in a losing effort against the Vikings last week, so even if Johnson were to play today, his target volume would be difficult to project. His absence gives No. 2 TE Daniel Bellinger a chance to operate as a full-time player, though, putting him on the touchdown-dependent TE1 radar.
  • NYG Outside Linebacker #5
Giants declared OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux, QB Russell Wilson, WR Ryan Miller P Jamie Gillan, T James Hudson III, WR Gunner Olszewski and DL Rakeem Nuñez-Roches Sr. inactive for Week 15 against the Commanders.
Thibodeaux remains out with his shoulder injury, and there’s a good chance he won’t return in 2025. Wilson will again be the emergency quarterback behind Jaxon Dart and Jameis Winston.
  • NYG Quarterback #19
The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports QB Jameis Winston will start in Week 11 if Jaxson Dart (concussion) is out.
Winston is being bumped to the QB2 role behind Dart, according to Russini. That means Russell Wilson — a favorite of recently fired head coach Brian Daboll — has been demoted to the emergency QB3 role ahead of the Giants’ Week 11 game against the Packers. Winston’s hair-on-fire play might not be great for real football purposes, but his aggressiveness and willingness to push the ball downfield should benefit Darius Slayton, Theo Johnson, and Wan’Dale Robinson if he gets the start against Green Bay. Dart last week suffered yet another head injury and has a good chance of missing at least one game. Winston should be rostered in all superflex fantasy formats this week.
  • NYG Quarterback #3
Russell Wilson completed 3-of-7 attempts for 45 yards in the Giants’ Week 10 loss against the Bears, adding two rushes for 12 yards.
Beyond a long catch and run by Devin Singletary, Wilson couldn’t get anything going through the air after coming into the game following Jaxson Dart’s third quarter head injury. Wilson appeared flustered and missed a couple easy throws in the game’s final drive. He should be picked up in superflex formats ahead of the Giants’ Week 11 game against the Packers, though he should only be used as a desperation option.

    Jaxson Dart
    NYG Quarterback #6
Jaxson Dart (concussion) exited the Giants’ Week 10 game against the Bears.
Dart took a wicked head shot late in the third quarter and fumbled the ball away to the Bears. He was reportedly evaluated for a concussion and helped to the Giants’ locker room at the start of the fourth quarter. It would be surprising if Dart was able to return to the game. That leaves Russell Wilson as the Giants’ starting quarterback. It’s a downgrade for all New York pass catchers.
  • NYG Quarterback #3
The Athletic’s Dan Duggan believes that “there may not be any teams interested in trading for [Russell] Wilson.”
Duggan concedes that the Bengals make sense in theory and that it’s “possible” someone gets desperate enough to trade for Wilson, but notes that he had a limited trade market and just got benched after three games while looking “washed up.” In the offseason, only the Browns and Giants were interested enough to bring Wilson in. Wilson does not look to have any stash value in superflex leagues based on this report, as much as it would make sense for the Giants to move on.
  • NYG Quarterback #3
Russell Wilson said he won’t ask for a release or trade after being benched for Jaxson Dart.
Wilson told reporters he’s focused on helping the Giants win and helping Dart. He’s taking the benching in stride despite making it just three games as the team’s starting quarterback. Even if he doesn’t ask to be moved, the Giants could find a trade partner for their new backup if quarterback injuries keep piling up across the league. Head coach Brian Daboll has already committed to Dart as the team’s starter for the remainder of the season, so there isn’t much value to be had in hanging on to Wilson. The team also has Jameis Winston on the roster, giving them another viable QB2.

    Jaxson Dart
    NYG Quarterback
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports QB Jaxson Dart will start in Week 4 against the Chargers.
Russell Wilson may have sealed his fate with a fourth quarter throwaway on fourth down on the red zone as the Giants tried to mount a comeback against the Chiefs. Wilson completed just 56 percent of his throws against KC for 160 scoreless yards and two picks. Dart instantly becomes fantasy viable in superflex formats and even some deeper one-QB leagues thanks to his rushing and aggressive play style. Dart completed 32 of 46 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions over three preseason affairs. His adjusted completion rate was 78 percent, according to Pro Football Focus. The rookie should provide a boost for Malik Nabers — who leads the NFL in air yards — and Wan’Dale Robinson.
