Moats helped his fantasy draft stock in the week Brian Westbrook was gone. Look for the rookie to cut into Westbrook’s production.

It’s seriously hard to tell the difference between Moats and Brian Westbrook. With Correll Buckhalter sidelined, Moats should have a major role in the Philadelphia offense. He’s draftable.

It’s uncertain if Moats will play in Philly’s next preseason game. Still, it’s a positive sign Moats missed less than two weeks with his sprained knee injury. He has plenty of time to get ready to be Brian Westbrook’s primary backup and a fine reserve fantasy pick.

After suffering a knee injury early in camp, he’s taking live hits again. Moats is the heavy favorite for the backup job behind Brian Westbrook, but is facing competition from Correll Buckhalter and Bruce Perry.

It’s the time of year we hear stories about every second-year player understanding the playbook much better. Moats is one of the most interesting backups in fantasy football because he’s sure to have a major role behind Brian Westbrook.

Moats didn’t show much and no longer appears a strong handcuff for Brian Westbrook owners. He did not have a catch in the game.

Moats is coming off a miserable preseason effort, carrying seven times for seven yards, with a fumble. Still, the Broncos might be willing to ditch one year of Ashley Lelie for three years of Moats, which makes sense for both sides. It’d help Moats’ fantasy value.

“I was swimming,” he said. “I was swimming, no doubt. I was lost. I didn’t know what was going on.” Still, Moats’ 5.1 yards-per-carry was among the best for rookies. He’ll be an excellent handcuff for Brian Westbrook this season.

Moats, a third-round pick in 2005, and Bruce Perry are thought to be competing for the team’s final running back roster space. Correll Buckhalter is second on the depth chart with Reno Mahe likely the No. 3 tailback.
