The Vikings signed Bernard Berrian to a six-year, $42 million contract, with a $16 million signing bonus. He’ll get $23 million in the first three years.
Making it harder to sign Randy Moss. Berrian could be overmatched if expected to be a true “number one” receiver, but he adds production and talent to a woeful passing game. Tarvaris Jackson now has two burners in Berrian and Sidney Rice, with Bobby Wade still likely to be active underneath. Expect Berrian’s numbers to take a slight hit in Minnesota, where Jackson is still a major question mark.
  • JAC Wide Receiver
Jerry Porter (knee) and Nnamdi Asomugha (knee) were both limited in Raiders practice Thursday.
Both are expected to play at the Vikings. Asomugha should mostly see Bobby Wade when the Vikings go two-wide and Sidney Rice when Minnesota uses three receivers. Wade then moves to the slot. Porter is a poor fantasy start.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
Coach Pete Carroll acknowledged Thursday that LG Robert Gallery (knee) has a better chance to play this week than Sidney Rice (shoulder).
Carroll had been trying to keep an optimistic outlook on Rice, but now looks like there’s a better chance that he sits out. Ben Obomanu is set to start opposite Mike Williams in that case. Surely you have better fantasy options in Week 1.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
The Seahawks have listed Sidney Rice (shoulder) and LG Robert Gallery (knee) as doubtful for Week 1.
Seattle will continue to play musical chairs on the offensive line without Gallery. Rice’s loss further hurts an already putrid Seahawks passing “attack.”
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
Sidney Rice (shoulder) returned to Seahawks practice Wednesday.
It’s a good sign for Rice’s chances of making his season debut, but we’d want to see him produce in Seattle’s arguably league-worst offense before even considering Rice fantasy viable. The Seahawks visit the Steelers this week.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll confirmed Monday that Sidney Rice “has labrum damage” in his shoulder.
One day after essentially saying Jay Glazer’s report was wrong, Carroll confirmed it. His admission casts doubt on his sunny Sunday assertion that “if you had watched (Rice) practice, you would think he could play.” A torn labrum sent teammate John Carlson to injured reserve in August, though Carroll insists the injuries are “different situations.” At best, Rice is questionable for Week 3.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
The Seahawks won’t decide whether to activate Sidney Rice (shoulder) in Week 3 until after he puts in a full practice week.
The plan is to let Rice practice Wednesday through Friday, then make a late-week decision. The Seahawks face Arizona in Week 3. We’re not optimistic about Rice’s fantasy value even if he gets healthy -- which is probably a long shot. Coach Pete Carroll confirmed Monday that Rice has a torn shoulder labrum.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
Despite a reported labrum tear in his shoulder, the Seahawks are still targeting Week 3 for Sidney Rice to make his Seattle debut.
Coach Pete Carroll, always more likely to mislead about injury situations than make admissions, essentially disputed Jay Glazer’s torn labrum report. “He was at about 80 percent last week,” Carroll said of Rice. “If you had watched practice, you would think he could play. But we didn’t hit him, we didn’t knock him around. We won’t know until we get him more active with him in practice. We’ll know more this week.” The Seahawks host the Cardinals in Week 3.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
Sidney Rice returned to the Seahawks’ lineup to haul in eight passes for 109 yards in Sunday’s Week 3 win over the Cardinals.
Rice was Seattle’s lone effective skill position player, getting open almost at will against perhaps the NFL’s worst pass defense. Tarvaris Jackson did target Rice relentlessly, which was good news for his fantasy value on this day. He just won’t get as much separation against secondaries that can cover going forward. Consider Rice a risky WR3 against the Falcons in Week 4.
  • SEA Wide Receiver #18
Sidney Rice is active for Sunday’s game against Arizona, as expected.
He’s likely to start opposite Big Mike Williams, though we’d be wary of using any member of Seattle’s offense as long as Tarvaris Jackson is the quarterback. Inactive for Seattle: QB Josh Portis, WR Kris Durham, FB Michael Robinson, DB Byron Maxwell, LG Robert Gallery, OT Jarriel King, and DL Al Woods.
