Lions signed third-round CB Stanley Wilson to a three-year, $1.49 million contract, including a $568,050 signing bonus.
Wilson showed a blend of speed and smarts at Stanford, where he was also on the track team. He emerged as a solid cover corner in 2004. Barring injury, Wilson likely won’t see much playing time this season.

Lions coach Rod Marinelli announced Wednesday that cornerback Fernando Bryant and guard Damien Woody recently agreed to redo their contracts.
It appears Woody will remain a Lion this season. Bryant is penciled in to start opposite Stanley Wilson with A.J. Davis and Travis Fisher also in the mix.
  • DET Defensive Back
Travis Fisher, Fernando Bryant, and Stanley Wilson will compete to be the Lions’ starting cornerbacks in training camp.
Bryant is the lone returning starter; the others are battling to replace Dre’ Bly. Fisher is best suited as a nickel back and Wilson is an emerging player who needs to improve his tackling. We suspect Bryant and Wilson will start.

Lions CB Fernando Bryant (foot) was on crutches after Sunday’s game.
Bryant is Detroit’s starting left corner, so his loss would be big. The Lions would likely have to turn back to Stanley Wilson as a starter if Bryant is out for Week 11. Wilson was recently benched in favor of Travis Fisher.
  • DET Defensive Back
Lions placed CB Stanley Wilson on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.
Since it’s becoming late in the season, teams are quicker to place hurt players on I.R. instead of waiting their injuries out. Wilson began the season as a starter, but never really fit the Tampa 2 scheme and eventually lost his job to Travis Fisher. He’ll be a restricted free agent in the 2008 offseason.
  • DET Defensive Back
Lions CB Stanley Wilson left Thursday’s preseason game with an Achilles’ injury to his left foot.
Wilson, a backup, will undergo tests today to see how serious it is.
  • DET Defensive Back
Lions waived/injured CB Stanley Wilson after he tore his Achilles tendon.
Assuming he clears waivers, he’ll revert to the team’s injured reserve list. A third-round pick in 2005, Wilson was a huge disappointment for the Lions as a starter. This will be a difficult injury for him to return from.
  • FA Quarterback #8
The Lions extended tenders to restricted free agent QB Dan Orlovsky, DT Langston Moore, G Stephen Peterman, and CB Stanley Wilson.
They all likely got low tenders ($927,000). Orlovsky will compete with Drew Stanton and Jon Kitna for the starting job in camp, but Kitna has the upper hand and Stanton would be more likely to overtake him, if anyone does.
  • DET Defensive Back
Lions signed restricted free agent CB Stanley Wilson to a one-year, $927,000 contract and retained exclusive rights free agent LaMarcus Hicks and Greg Blue.
The Lions had high hopes for Wilson last season as a starter, but he may not be physical enough for the Tampa 2 scheme. All three will compete for roster spots in training camp. The latter two are long shots to stick.
