Rams coach Mike Martz wants to get Steven Jackson more involved in the offense.
He says Jackson will spell Marshall Faulk more often, although the Rams haven’t run the ball much. “We absolutely want to get him more involved, no question,” Martz said Monday. Hold on to Jackson, he’s likely to have value as the year wears on.
  • Running Back
Rookie Steven Jackson leads the NFL in rushing yards this preseason with 251.
He should get less playing time tonight because Lamar Gordon is back in the lineup.
  • Running Back
Mike Martz says he will continue to expand Steven Jackson’s role in upcoming weeks.
He’s emerging as a flex position option. “He’ll creep his way into many different aspects of our offense from here on out,” coach Mike Martz said. His work on the goal-line should worry Marshall Faulk owners.
  • Running Back
Steven Jackson is “probably still questionable for next week,” after getting his knee drained again on Sunday.
It’s early, but the St. Louis papers believe Marshall Faulk has a better shot of playing than Jackson next week.
  • Running Back
Steven Jackson, questionable with a knee injury, practiced for a second straight day Thursday.
He’s ready to play and will share the load with Marshall Faulk on Sunday. Look for 10-15 touches. Since he has a solid chance to score, he’s not a terrible option.
  • Running Back
Steven Jackson ran on a treadmill at full speed on Monday.
“That’s encouraging,” coach Mike Martz said. He’ll be listed as questionable. If Jackson is able to play, we’d guess he’ll carry the load.
  • Running Back
Steven Jackson and Marshall Faulk will both be ready to play on Sunday.
Look for the two to split carries. We wouldn’t be surprised if Jackson gets more work, despite being the backup.
  • Running Back
Steven Jackson was healthy for Sunday’s game, but didn’t earn a snap.
Marshall Faulk was doing nothing, so this was yet another strange move by Mike Martz if true. “Was Steven going to make the difference in that game? No. Marshall loses 4 yards, or Steven loses 4 yards.” It looks like Jackson’s usefulness is done for this season.
  • Running Back
The soreness in Steven Jackson’s knee was more serious than initially expected.
“I don’t know if he’ll be available this week or not,” coach Mike Martz said. “I suppose he will be, but who knows?” Jackson took a hit on the last of his 26 carries versus the 49ers. He has another day to rest his knee and the Rams sound somewhat optimistic he’ll be ready. Marshall Faulk looks less likely to play.
  • Running Back
Steven Jackson missed Rams practice again on Thursday.
He’s listed as questionable with a sore knee and will need to practice today for a chance to start. Marshall Faulk was able to practice Thursday, but it’s believed that Jackson would get the nod if healthy.
