Patriots re-signed QB Tommy DeVito to a two-year, $7.4 million contract.
DeVito spent all of last season with the Patriots but never took a snap for the team. The former UDFA served as the team’s QB3 behind Joshua Dobbs and will likely have a chance to compete with Dobbs for the team’s QB2 spot now that both are slated to return in 2026. For his career, DeVito has thrown for 1,358-8-3 on 222 passes while completing 65.3 percent of his attempts.
  • NE Wide Receiver #86
Patriots declared WR Efton Chism, CB Kobee Minor, OLB Bradyn Swinson, OT Marcus Bryant, G Caedan Wallace, TE C.J. Dippre and QB Tommy DeVito inactive for Super Bowl LX against the Seahawks.
Chism, an undrafted free agent rookie, was active in the Divisional Round and Wild Card Round but did not play in the AFC Championship Game. He caught 3-of-3 targets for 75 yards and one touchdown in the regular season and caught his lone postseason target for a 20-yard gain. DeVito will serve as the Patriots’ emergency third quarterback today.
  • NE Quarterback #16
Patriots declared QB Tommy DeVito, G Jared Wilson, S Brenden Schooler, T Marcus Bryant, OLB Bradyn Swinson, TE CJ Dippre, and DT Khyiris Tonga inactive for Week 13 against the Giants.
Offensive tackle Marcus Bryant is probably the most notable inactive for the Patriots considering he was expected to serve at the swing tackle against the Giants. DeVito will be inactive, as has been the case since being claimed by the team in August.
  • NE Quarterback #15
Patriots claimed QB Tommy DeVito off waivers from the Giants.
DeVito threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns against the Patriots in the preseason finale and now he’ll join New England’s active roster. The 27-year-old started six games with the Giants in 2023, but he’ll serve as New England’s third quarterback behind Drake Maye and Josh Dobbs. New England also claimed DB Charles Woods off waivers from the Rams.
  • NYG Quarterback #15
    Giants released QB Tommy DeVito.
While DeVito was competing for the backup quarterback job in camp, he had little chance of making the Giants roster after New York brought in Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and Jaxon Dart this offseason. The 27-year-old started six games with the Giants in 2023, throwing for eight touchdowns and three interceptions. DeVito is unlikely to be claimed by another team on waivers, meaning he’s destined for a practice squad. While carrying a fourth quarterback on the practice squad may be a little excessive, Wilson and Winston aren’t exactly spring chickens either and DeVito’s best path forward for his career may be to remain in the Giants organization.
  • NYG Quarterback #15
Giants re-signed QB Tommy DeVito to a one-year, $1.030 million contract.
According to Stapleton, DeVito will sign his ERFA tender over the weekend, making DeVito the first quarterback to be rostered by the Giants for the start of the 2025 season. DeVito has thrown for 1,358-8-3 in two seasons with the Giants but played just 91 offensive snaps last season. He’ll have a chance to compete for the backup quarterback job in camp but is more likely to serve as an emergency QB3 most weeks.
  • NYG Quarterback #2
Giants coach Brian Daboll said Drew Lock (shoulder) will get an MRI and a decision on who will start against the Colts in Week 17 has not yet been made.
Someone with more time to pursue this should come up with a stat on Giants touchdowns thrown against MRIs received since Daniel Jones was released. After clearing concussion protocol it seems likely that Tommy DeVito would be the starter against the Colts if Lock was unable to go. Either way, the Giants will be a target for Colts D/ST streamers.
  • NYG Quarterback #15
Tommy DeVito (concussion) will be active for New York’s Week 16 game against the Falcons.
DeVito cleared protocol and will back up Drew Lock as the NFL’s worst quarterback room tries to make it through the last three weeks of the season.
  • NYG Quarterback #2
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Drew Lock will start in Week 16 against the Falcons.
Lock was limited in Wednesday’s practice with heel and elbow injuries, but the fact that he was already named the starter means neither is expected to be an issue. Tommy DeVito sustained a brain injury in Week 15 against the Ravens, opening the door for another Lock start in a miserable Giants season. Lock has been worse than usual as New York’s starter, completing 50 percent of his pass attempts for zero touchdowns and two interceptions on 90 attempts. Lock’s insertion into the New York lineup is bad news for Malik Nabers and the rest of the Giants pass catchers. Tim Boyle will likely serve as Lock’s backup and could very well see playing time if (when) Lock struggles against Atlanta.
  • NYG Quarterback #12
Tim Boyle completed 12-of-24 attempts for 123 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Giants’ Week 15 loss against the Ravens.
Boyle performed admirably in the second half after Tommy DeVito exited the game with a head injury. Boyle targeted Malik Nabers time and time again, connecting with the Giants WR1 for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the lopsided loss. Boyle could be an upgrade for Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson over DeVito and Drew Lock — who’s dealing with a heel injury — if he gets the starting nod next week against Atlanta.
