Cox faces possible further disciplinary action from the NFL or the Bucs.

Cox’s suspension is a result of drinking alcohol after being placed in the substance abuse program. Cox is arguing that his alcoholism is a disability.

Cox, a fierce special teamer, was suspended for the first four games of the season.

While it’s extremely rare for players to win appeals versus the league office, Cox’s violation of the substance-abuse policy still hasn’t been revealed specifically. It is believed to be alcohol, not drug related. Cox will not have to begin serving his suspension until the NFL rules on his appeal.

One of Tampa’s best special teams players and return men, Cox provides depth at cornerback. He has previously been arrested for DUI, which likely put him in the substance abuse program.

Cox, primarily a special teamer, is uncertain to play in Week 9.

Cox is a borderline NFL player when it comes to non-special teams ability, but had been acting as the Bucs’ third corner with Brian Kelly continuing to nurse a groin injury. That job will now fall to the burnable Sammy Davis.

Talib, who’s been running his mouth all spring, reportedly tried to hit Penn with his helmet but accidentally struck Cox. Cox was cut in the eye and nose area. It’s uncertain if he’ll need surgery. Brawling is nothing new for Talib, who also got into a fight with Bucs seventh-round pick Cory Boyd at last year’s Rookie Symposium. He may face some in-house discipline.
