Browns coach Romeo Crennel says third-round WR Travis Wilson isn’t guaranteed a roster spot.
“He’s trying to earn a spot on the team and he’s still got a lot to learn,” said Crennel. While this is probably posturing, it shows Wilson may have trouble finding playing time even with Braylon Edwards out. He’s battling Frisman Jackson, Brandon Rideau, and Josh Cribbs for the No. 3 receiver role.
  • LA Wide Receiver
Tim Carter took Braylon Edwards’ place at Browns OTA practice Tuesday.
We would’ve guessed Travis Wilson would be first in line behind Edwards but Carter has more experience, possibly giving him the leg up. For now, it appears Carter and Wilson are the favorites to be Cleveland’s third receiver.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
Joe Jurevicius will remain a starter this season.
This isn’t breaking news, but the Browns would’ve preferred Travis Wilson or even Tim Carter to step up outside and moved Jurevicius to the slot. Instead, Wilson struggled with drops in training camp and Carter got hurt, as usual.
  • DAL Wide Receiver
Browns WR Travis Wilson has looked sluggish and inconsistent at camp.
Wilson has been plagued by drops throughout camp. Both Tim Carter and Joshua Cribbs are ahead of him in the competition for Cleveland’s No. 3 WR spot.
  • LA Wide Receiver
Tim Carter is winning the battle over Travis Wilson for the number three receiver job in Browns camp.
Romeo Crennel implied Carter could even start, grouping him ahead of Joe Jurevicius and Braylon Edwards when listing names. Crennel won’t name his starters, cryptically saying, “Sometimes you might not say that Braylon has [a starting job] locked up. It’s still early.” Carter isn’t a fantasy option, but he’s slated for playing time.
  • CLE Wide Receiver
The Browns would prefer to have Joe Jurevicius play in the slot this year.
Problem is, Tim Carter and Travis Wilson haven’t stepped up and claimed the starting role. Jurevicius is likely to line up with the first team in Week 1.
  • DAL Wide Receiver
Browns declared WR Travis Wilson, QB Ken Dorsey, DB Kenny Wright, DB Ricardo Colclough, G Isaac Sowells, C Greg Eslinger, LB David McMillan, and DT Louis Leonard inactive for Week 14.
Wilson has been inactive all year. Third receiver Tim Carter is up, along with No. 2 tight end Steve Heiden. CB Eric Wright rejoins the lineup.
  • DAL Wide Receiver
    Cowboys released WR Travis Wilson.
Wilson, the Browns’ third-round pick in 2006, injured his knee during OTAs and likely needed surgery. He was probably never going to make the roster.
  • DAL Wide Receiver
The Cowboys consider futures signee Travis Wilson a “sleeper” to contribute at wideout this season, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.
Wilson, a 2006 third-round pick of the Browns, is no lock to make it out of training camp, but he’ll likely get a look behind Miles Austin at flanker.
  • DAL Wide Receiver
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips revealed Tuesday that Travis Wilson has a knee injury that may require surgery.
Wilson, a futures signee, was already a big long shot to make the team. Surgery could knock the former third-round pick out of the mix entirely.
