Sixth-round rookie Tyler Loop has been named the Ravens’ starting kicker.
“He’ll be the kicker,” coach John Harbaugh confirmed after Saturday’s preseason game. “He’s earned it.” Loop was always the favorite to replace Justin Tucker by virtue of having draft capital. Despite his rookie status and strong if not impeccable college pedigree, Loop is immediately fantasy relevant as the kicker for one of the league’s highest-scoring offenses.

Ravens K Tyler Loop has fared well in training camp thus far.
Training camp statistics are overrated. It is impossible to replicate in-game settings. However, the Ravens’ search for Justin Tucker’s replacement is going well. Loop reportedly converted 11-of-11 field goal attempts at Sunday’s practice, with two kicks going for 56 and 60 yards. The Ravens’ highly efficient offense should regularly venture into enemy territory this season, providing their kicker with frequent field goal and extra point opportunities. Should Loop earn the job by continuing to boot 50-plus-yard field goals through the uprights in preseason play, he would immediately be in the K1 conversation.

The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec believes sixth-round pick Tyler Loop “remains the favorite” to win the Ravens kicking job.
He’s battling with UDFA John Hoyland in training camp. Loop’s performance in OTAs and mandatory minicamp is described by Zrebiec as “shaky,” so this isn’t a fully settled situation just yet. It’s possible this comes down to performance in preseason games.
  • FA Kicker #9
    Ravens released K Justin Tucker.
The writing was on the wall after the draft, where Baltimore drafted rookie kicker Tyler Loop as Tucker’s replacement. Tucker has spent most of the late season and offseason dealing with sexual misconduct allegations from massage therapists in Baltimore-area spas, and had by far the worst season of his career in 2024, making 73.3 percent of his 30 field-goal attempts. The Ravens stood by him throughout the process and framed moving on from him as a “football decision” in a statement, but it’s hard to believe they would have moved on from him if not for the allegations. Tucker will likely have to clear his name, as Brandon McManus did this past offseason, before he gets another NFL chance. The NFL’s investigation into Tucker’s behavior is, per CBS’ Jonathan Jones, still “under review.”
  • BAL Kicker #9
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told reporters that personnel decisions regarding the kicker position “will be based on football.”
Reporters asked Harbaugh about the NFL’s open investigation into Justin Tucker’s 16 sexual assault allegations, and whether the Ravens might move on from Tucker with sixth-round rookie K Tyler Loop now in the fold. Harbaugh answered by saying the Ravens’ organization does not know “anything” about the investigation and has not been given any information by the league. Per Harbaugh, “every decision” the Ravens make must therefore “be based on football,” citing things like practice performance, draft capital and salary cap implications as critical factors. Loop promisingly converted 45-of-47 field goals attempted from 0-to-39 yards out in his college career.
  • BAL Kicker (FG)
Ravens selected K Tyler Loop with the No. 186 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
A converted punter, Loop (5'11, 191) served as the Wildcats’ place kicker the previous four seasons. He earned second-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2023 and honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2024, setting school records with a 62-yard field goal and an 83.8 percent conversion rate throughout his career. Kickers rarely get drafted in today’s day and age, meaning the team likely feels highly uncomfortable with the future of Justin Tucker with the organization.
