Bucs promoted S Vince Anderson from their practice squad.
Anderson had a nice showing in Giants camp in 2009, but he’s been practice-squad bound ever since. He and Larry Asante will add depth at safety with Cody Grimm out of the year and Sabby Piscitelli released.
  • FA Defensive Back #42
Bucs coach Raheem Morris confirmed Friday that Corey Lynch will be the team’s starting free safety going forward.
Lynch beat out Vince Anderson in practice for the position previously held by Cody Grimm (fractured fibula). Essentially a career special teamer, Lynch didn’t make the Bengals out of training camp. Grimm showed playmaking ability as a rookie starter, and Lynch projects as a sizable downgrade.
  • TB Wide Receiver #15
Bucs signed WR Ed Gant, OLs John Malecki and Marc Dile, FB Redrick Taylor, DE E.J. Wilson, S Vince Anderson, and LBs Simoni Lawrence and J.D. Folsom to reserve/future contracts.
Wilson was a seventh-round pick of Seattle, and projects as a potential early-down end who can kick to tackle in passing sets in the Bucs’ Cover 2. Gant was suspended four games in 2010 for violating the NFL’s policy on PEDs.
  • TB Defensive Back
    Bucs waived S Vince Anderson.
Anderson failed to impress in his three weeks on the active squad. He played just one snap in one game.
  • NE Tight End
Giants waived TE Carson Butler, S Vince Anderson, LBs Micah Johnson and Lee Campbell, and P Jy Bond.
Hakeem Nicks will be sad to see Anderson go; Nicks lit him up at minicamp. Johnson, a onetime top prospect at Kentucky, should’ve entered the draft after his junior season. He struggled as a senior and wasn’t picked in April.

Bucs signed S Vince Anderson, formerly of the Giants.
Anderson, 25, starred in 2009 Giants camp, but was waived in June after a year on the practice squad. He’ll compete for a fourth safety role in Tampa.
  • NYJ Running Back
Bucs waived RB Carlos Brown, DBs Vince and Brandon Anderson, OL Marc Dile, and TE Jeron Mastrud.
We’re just trying to tie up some loose ends here. The Bucs are keeping five safeties, and the Andersons won’t be among them. Brown played college ball for Michigan, who blew out the UConn Huskies in Saturday’s opener.
  • TB Defensive Back
Bucs waived S Vince Anderson, DL Brandon Gilbeaux, and WR Detron Lewis.
They’re officially now down to 80 men. Anderson, Gilbeaux, and Lewis are all former or current undrafted players. Anderson spent time on the Bucs’ practice squad last year and knows the system, so perhaps he’ll get an in-season call.
