Wes Schweitzer retired from the NFL after eight seasons.
He had signed a one-year deal with the Patriots this offseason. The veteran guard played for the Falcons, Commanders, and Jets over his eight years in the league after being selected in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He started 29 games for the Falcons in his first two seasons, but was mostly a versatile fill-in player afterwards. PFF graded his 2020 season with the Commanders, where he started 13 games, as his best year as a starter. The Patriots will likely turn to Cole Strange at guard this season.
  • NE Guard #71
Patriots signed OG Wes Schweitzer, formerly of the Jets, to a one-year contract.
Schweitzer has spent the last two seasons with the Jets, starting two of the 10 games he’s appeared in. The eight-year vet has 62 career starts to his name, but has started only 13 games over the last four seasons. Schweitzer shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than a depth signing at this point after playing primarily as a backup since 2021.
  • NYJ Wide Receiver #10
Jets activated Allen Lazard (chest) from injured reserve.
Offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer was activated from injured reserve as well. Lazard had 412 yards and five touchdowns before suffering the chest injury in Week 8. Most of his production came before Davante Adams joined the mix, so fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him to keep up the pace in the final month of the season. As a distant third receiver for a struggling offense, Lazard is not on the fantasy radar for Week 14.
  • NYJ Center #60
Jets placed C Connor McGovern (knee) on injured reserve.
McGovern suffered a dislocated knee cap in the Jets’ Week 8 win over the Giants and will now miss at least the next four games. Backup Wes Schweitzer, who replaced McGovern exited a few plays later with an injury and has also been placed on injured reserve with a calf injury. The Jets will be down to their fourth-string center heading into Week 9’s contest against the Chargers and will likely bring in a free agent at some point this week.
  • NYJ Center #60
Jets C Connor McGovern (knee) is doubtful to return in Week 8 against the Giants.
McGovern was filling in at center for Joe Tippman, who is inactive for Week 8 with an injury of his own. Shortly after McGovern went down, third-string center Wes Schweitzer suffered an apparent leg injury. He was unable to walk off under his own power and appears unlikely to return. Xavier Newman, who is not a center by trade, took over at center. His first snap to Zach Wilson was fumbled.
  • NE Guard #72
Jets signed G Wes Schweitzer, formerly of the Commanders, to a two-year, $5 million contract with $3.165 million guaranteed.
Schweitzer spent several weeks on injured reserve with a long-term concussion, playing only seven games for the Commanders last season. He’d appeared in at least 10 games in every other season of his career. He should profile as an inside depth piece for the Jets.

  • NE Guard #72
Commanders placed C Wes Schweitzer (concussion) on injured reserve.
It means Schweitzer will miss at least the next four games. Chase Roullier, who opened the season as the starter at center, is also on injured reserve with a knee issue and could be out for the season. Nick Martin will likely get the starts at center as long as Schweitzer and Roullier are out.

  • NE Guard #72
Commanders C Wes Schweitzer (concussion) won’t play in Week 4 against the Cowboys.
Third-string center Nick Martin, who the team signed earlier this season off the street, will likely start at center for the Commanders. It’s not the most ideal situation for Washington’s running game, and the Cowboys already figured to be a bit of a challenge for them.

  • NE Guard #72
Commanders C Wes Scheweitzer (concussion) remains in concussion protocol Thursday.
Schweitzer has taken over the starting center role after the team placed Chase Roullier on injured reserve (knee) following a Week 2 injury. Schweitzer suffered a concussion in last week’s loss to the Eagles and has now missed back-to-back practices. If Schweitzer is unable to go on Sunday, Nick Martin is listed as the team’s backup center.

  • Commanders LT Charles Leno (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday.
Leno hasn’t appeared on the injury report or missed a snap this season, so the injury seemingly occurred on Sunday. Starting center Wes Schweitzer also missed practice because of a concussion. Missing two starting linemen for Week 4 would be a disaster for Carson Wentz, who already leads the NFL in sacks taken. This is a situation to monitor throughout the week.
