Elliott prepared for anything after Brodeur signing

Brian Elliott

Brian Elliott

When the St. Louis Blues signed Martin Brodeur, one of the questions raised was what the Blues’ goaltending situation will look like once Brian Elliott is ready to return from a sprained knee.

"(Brodeur’s) going to go and he’s going to play when he’s asked to play, and when (Brian Elliot’s) ready, he’ll be back in here. Our goaltenders are Brian and Jake (Allen). We believe in them,” Blues GM Doug Armstrong said after inking Brodeur, per Yahoo Sports.

Elliott is aware of what Armstrong said, but he also knows that circumstances can change.

“You just have to be prepared for it,” he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “But as far as myself, I just want to get back as soon as possible and be part of the team. You want to be a rock back there that everybody can count on.”

When asked specifically about the Blues’ decision to bring in Brodeur, Elliott admitted that he doesn’t “know what my take is.” If nothing else though, he is taking the opportunity to learn as much as he can from the future Hall of Fame goaltender.

Elliott’s not expected to be back in the near future and in the meantime, Brodeur has gotten off to a solid start. If that continues, then Brodeur will put the Blues in a desirable but nevertheless difficult position once Elliott returns.
