The Nashville Predators took a big step toward snapping out of their early season slump on Tuesday night with a 5-1 blowout win over the Colorado Avalanche.

But the win, just their third in the first nine games of the season, did come with a little bit of a price.

Team captain Mike Fisher had to leave the game in the second period after playing only 11 minutes with what was described as an upper body injury. He did not return to the game. He was also not on the ice for practice on Wednesday and is currently listed as being “day-to-day,” via Adam Vingan of the Tennessean. The Predators wrap up their current five-game road trip out west on Thursday in Arizona against the Coyotes.

Fisher’s status for that game is not yet known.

Fisher already missed one game earlier this season when he was one of the players sidelined by food poisoning shortly after the start of the campaign.

In eight games this season the 36-year-old Fisher is tied for the second on the team in scoring with five points (two goals, three assists).

The Predators were one of the hot teams coming into the 2016-17 season following a strong showing a year ago and the addition of P.K. Subban, but have stumbled out of the gate with a 3-5-1 record as of Wednesday. Perhaps Tuesday’s game against Colorado will be what they needed to get headed back in the right direction.
