Two-time Olympic medalist Jonathan Horton is in the field for the P&G Championships in three weeks, which would mark his first competition since the London Olympics.
Horton, who won high bar silver and team bronze at the 2008 Olympics, competed in the 2012 Olympics with a right shoulder that was “torn to shreds,” a doctor told him afterward.
He underwent surgery in December 2012 and then tore a pectoral muscle in December 2013, requiring another surgery.
The 28-year-old is the most experienced man entered at the P&G Championships, Aug. 21-24 in Pittsburgh. The six-man team for the World Championships in China in October will be chosen after the P&G Championships.
Horton, a five-time World Championships team member, said in May that he hoped to compete in all six events at the P&G Championships. Horton also won the U.S. all-around title in 2010 and 2011.
He’ll be joined at the P&G Championships by all of his 2012 Olympic teammates -- 2011 U.S. all-around champion Danell Leyva, 2012 U.S. all-around champion John Orozco, 2013 U.S. all-around champion Sam Mikulak and two-time Worlds medalist Jake Dalton.
The loaded field also includes every member of the 2013 World Championships team that won four medals, including Mikulak, Orozco, Dalton, vault silver medalist Steven Legendre, still rings bronze medalist Brandon Wynn and Alex Naddour.
