No gymnast has been awarded a perfect score at the Olympics since 1992, but McKayla Maroney‘s vault in the team final was the standard of excellence at London 2012.
Maroney, who announced her retirement in a video published Wednesday, stuck her Amanar vault and was awarded an execution score of 9.733 out of 10 for an overall score of 16.233.
It marked the only score in the 16s in the team final and the highest of any women’s score in any event at the London Games.
“It was just, like, godly,” Maroney said in 2014. “Like I really think that there was angels or something like that.”
It capped a dominant first rotation for the U.S., which led rival Russia by 1.766 points after vaults from Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber and Maroney. Those were the three highest-scoring vaults of the team final.
The U.S. went on to win gold by a comfortable 5.066 points, its first Olympic team title since 1996.
