The window for Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial was extended to May 16 on Sunday.

The trial was originally scheduled for March 3-20. It then set a weeklong break after April 4, resuming April 14. Now, it is open to run from April 14 through May 16 after that recess.

Pistorius, the first double amputee to run in the Olympics in 2012, fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on the early morning of Valentine’s Day 2013.

Pistorius has said he fired through a locked bathroom door, hitting Steenkamp, thinking there was an intruder locked inside the bathroom.

Prosecutors say he fatally shot Steenkamp after an argument that night. He could face 25 years in prison if convicted of premeditated murder.

The trial concluded its 13th day Wednesday, and the prosecution expects to close its case early next week.

The increasing legal fees with a longer trial caused Pistorius to sell the home where he fatally shot Steenkamp.
