NFL Network’s Alex Flanagan reports Chargers SS Steve Gregory (thigh) is inactive for Thursday night’s game against the Raiders.
Gregory injured himself in Wednesday’s practice. Pro Football Focus grades Gregory as slightly below average in coverage and against the run. Veteran Paul Oliver will fill in opposite Eric Weddle, with rookie Shareece Wright providing depth. Also inactive for the Bolts in Week 10: WR Malcom Floyd, OLB Shaun Phillips, WR Bryan Walters, OG Kris Dielman, DE Vaughn Martin, and LB Darryl Gamble.
  • FA Defensive Back #47
Steve Gregory will be the Chargers’ starting strong safety going forward.
Bob Sanders (knee) is predictably done for the year. Gregory played every snap against the Chiefs last week, recording five tackles. He’ll be spelled at times by the newly re-signed Paul Oliver this week.
  • FA Defensive Back
Chargers signed S Paul Oliver, formerly of the Saints.
Oliver got injured in Saints camp, was placed on I.R., and later released with a settlement. He was an original Chargers draft pick and knows the scheme.
  • FA Defensive Back
Former Chargers S Paul Oliver was found dead at the age of 29.
Oliver, a 2007 fourth-round Supplemental Draft selection, took his own life. He played in 57 games from 2008-2011 with the Chargers, recording 144 tackles and four interceptions. Oliver played his college ball at Georgia.
  • FA Defensive Back
The Falcons and Chargers have already set up meetings with CB Paul Oliver, who is hoping to be selected in July’s NFL Supplemental Draft.
Neither plays the Cover 2. Oliver’s unimpressive Pro Day still doesn’t mean teams won’t give him a look. He’s a projected third- or fourth-round choice.
  • FA Defensive Back
Georgia CB Paul Oliver measured 5-10 and 5/8 at his Pro Day Wednesday.
Oliver was listed at 6-0/205 in college. From a measurables standpoint, Oliver doesn’t appear likely to be a first-day supplemental draft selection.
  • FA Defensive Back
Georgia CB Paul Oliver ran his forty in the 4.5-4.58 range at his Pro Day, according to Scout.com. His vertical was 33.5 inches.
Oliver has size to help overcome the lack of long speed, but these numbers aren’t that impressive. It’s possible he’ll get a look from Cover 2 teams or even as a free safety. Oliver shut down Calvin Johnson in November, but probably won’t go any higher than the third round next month.
  • FA Defensive Back
Chargers signed supplemental rookie CB Paul Oliver to a four-year contract.
Oliver was the highest player picked in July’s Supplemental Draft. He’s San Diego’s nickel back of the future, when Drayton Florence moves on in 2008 and Antonio Cromartie enters the starting lineup opposite Quentin Jammer.
  • FA Defensive Back
Georgia CB Paul Oliver will hold a Pro Day workout on June 20.
Oliver, who has applied for the Supplemental Draft, is big at 6-0/205 and is expected to run well. Had Oliver declared for April’s draft as a junior instead of returning to Georgia then flunking out, it’s expected that he would’ve been a second- or third-round pick. Nebraska offensive lineman Chris Patrick has also entered the Supplemental Draft.
  • FA Defensive Back
The 49ers will attend Georgia CB Paul Oliver’s Pro Day on June 20.
Either personnel chief Scott McCloughan or his brother David, the Niners’ director of college scouting, will represent the team. The 49ers have a good group of corners and probably wouldn’t use a first-day supplemental pick. The Bills will also attend and are much more needy at the position.
