Gosselin

Gosselin went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week and has been cut loose by the Angels. The 33-year-old veteran journeyman has gotten into 34 games this season between the Braves and Angels.

The veteran utility infielder was slashing just .098/.132/.137 in 53 plate appearances with Anaheim.

He’ll get a breather with tough opposing southpaw Shane McClanahan on the hill for the Rays. Phil Gosselin will start in his place at first base and will bat eighth for the Angels on Wednesday evening in Tampa Bay.

Gosselin was able to leave on his own, but still a very scary situation. It was a 91 mph sinker from Glenn Otto. An update on his status should come before Sunday.

The triple was his first in the majors since 2016. It doesn’t seem like Gosselin should be an upgrade over the recently DFA’d Jonathan Villar for the Angels, but he has gotten hot on occasion in his career. He’s 3-for-17 in five games since the Angels claimed him off waivers for the Braves.

Gosselin returns to Los Angeles after being designated for assignment last week by the Braves. The versatile 33-year-old utility infielder appeared in 104 games last year for the Angels and will give them some extra bench depth coming out of the All-Star break.

Gosselin has been removed from the Braves’ 40-man roster to make room for newly acquired second baseman Robinson Canó. The versatile 33-year-old super utility infielder appeared in just 12 games for the Braves after being brought up last month in the wake of Ozzie Albies foot injury.

Gosselin has appeared in 463 games in the majors since 2013, hitting .261/.314/.362 with 17 homers and 11 steals in 1,122 plate appearances. He got into 104 games last year with the Angels. The 33-year-old veteran utility infielder will provide the Braves with some defensive flexibility as they attempt to replace second baseman Ozzie Albies, who will be out for at least two months after fracturing his left foot on Monday night against the Nationals.

The deal presumably includes an invite to spring training. Gosselin served as a versatile super-utility infielder last year with the Angels, hitting .261/.314/.362 with seven home runs and four stolen bases across 373 plate appearances. He’ll provide the Braves with some organizational infield depth this season.
