Dolphins OL Sam Brenner is the new starting left guard, passing Nate Garner on the depth chart.
Brenner, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Utah, spent the first 10 weeks of the season on the practice squad before getting a promotion in Week 11. He started that game at center but has since overtaken Garner at left guard. Garner has been brutal as a run blocker in Pro Football Focus’ metrics.

Broncos G/C Sam Brenner was carted off with a concussion in Sunday’s practice.
It’s obviously a scary situation when a concussion calls for the cart. Brenner is a reserve along the interior.
  • FA Center #67
Broncos will not tender an offer to restricted free agent G/C Sam Brenner, making him a free agent.
Brenner sat out the entire 2016 season after suffering a concussion early in training camp. Even if he were healthy, Brenner would have been a backup. Brenner claims to have cleared the concussion protocol, so at least he’ll enter free agency with a clean bill of health.
  • FA Center #67
Sam Brenner is expected to take over at center while Mike Pouncey (hip) is sidelined.
Brenner’s a second-year UDFA out of Utah. He played 292 offensive snaps as a rookie, making one start at center and three starts at left guard. Brenner received extremely poor marks from PFF both as a pass protector and run blocker. The Dolphins’ offensive line is still a major question mark. The projected opening day starters outside of LT Branden Albert have combined for 12 NFL starts.

Broncos re-signed exclusive-rights free agent OL Sam Brenner.
Claimed off waivers in November, Brenner spent the final eight weeks and entire postseason on Denver’s roster. He’ll back up at multiple interior line spots.

Dolphins waived or released OL Sam Brenner, T Tony Hills, DT Isaako Aaitui, WR Kevin Cone, CB Kevin Fogg, S Jordan Kovacs, QB Seth Lobato, TE Kyle Miller, DE Tevin Mims, DE D’Aundre Reed, K Jake Rogers, DT Garrison Smith, LB Andrew Wilson, TE Evan Wilson and OL Evan Finkenberg.
DT Kamal Johnson was placed on injured reserve. Originally expected to replace injured C Mike Pouncey in the starting lineup, Brenner struggled throughout the preseason. He started three games at left guard and one game a center for the Dolphins in 2013.
  • FA Center #67
Dolphins promoted C Sam Brenner and DT Deandre Coleman from the practice squad.
Brenner and Coleman will bring up the rear of the Dolphins’ roster for Week 17 and enter the offseason as part of Miami’s 90 men.
