All three were in Rangers camp this spring as non-roster invitees. Duffy is the highest profile name of the group, but hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021 due to injuries.

The 35-year-old Greene, who went to an All-Star Game as the Tigers’ closer in 2019, has struggled to stay in the majors the last three years. Last season, he pitched twice for the Cubs in September, throwing three scoreless innings. He had a 1.84 ERA in 29 1/3 innings in Triple-A.

Greene was designated for assignment earlier in the month but returns to the big league squad for the final contest of the season. Greene posted a 1.75 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 27/12 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings with Triple-A Iowa this season.

Greene was a prominent high-leverage reliever a few years ago, but he’s bounced around the last few years. The 34-year-old right-hander went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. He’ll likely stick around with Chicago as emergency relief depth.

Greene pitched just once in his five days with the Cubs, throwing a scoreless inning Sunday. It’s the only major league appearance this season for the former Tigers closer.

Greene, 34, signed with the Cubs in late June and posted a 2.16 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 16 2/3 innings in Triple-A. He’ll add some experience and depth down the stretch.

The 34-year-old was just signed in late June and has allowed two runs in three innings across two appearances in Triple-A. Greene is a few years removed from saving 23 games in 2019 and 32 games in 2018, but he will likely operate simply as bullpen depth for the stretch run.

Greene made two relief appearances last year between the Dodgers and Yankees and provides the Cubs with some extra organizational relief depth at Triple-A Iowa. The 34-year-old journeyman right-hander has made 343 appearances (33 starts) and also has 67 career saves in the majors since 2014.

Greene elected free agency on Wednesday after being outrighted off the 40-man roster but has quickly re-signed.

Greene rejected the assignment and became a free agent. The veteran was designated for assignment by the Yankees after making just one appearance for the team over the weekend.
