Transfer Deadline Day live updates: Latest news, deals on final day of the summer window

What a saga this one has turned out to be. A (mostly) happy ending in the end, though, as Balogun appears headed to Merseyside after all with the deal sheet giving them additional time to complete the transfer. Everton are probably going to get a small discount for their troubles (and the increased risk incurred).

Monaco have reportedly canceled their 63.6-million agreement with Chelsea for midfielder Lamine Camara just as the transfer deadline in England passed.

Does this mean that the deal for Folarin Balogun to go to Everton is now back on, given that Monaco must sell to get back onside financially? Presumably, they would prefer to sell Balogun and keep Camara.

Spurs have wrapped up the window by double dipping for Chelsea players, as Tosin Adarabioyo joins Mykhailo Mudryk in making the move from west to north London. Adarabioyo’s name came in recent days after Kevin Danso made it clear that he wanted to leave for more playing time. The deal to sign Adarabioyo is said to have cost Spurs roughly $13 million.

Some deals will still be announced as some clubs have certainly filed deal sheets with the Premier League. Announcements of those extensions should start to roll in any second. We’ll compile a list of them below…

Everton are running out of time and they’re already all out of options after failing to loan both Joshua Zirkzee and Tammy Abraham, which has reportedly brought them back to the negotiating table with Monaco over Balgoun’s price tag. Having failed his Merseyside medical, Everton are attempting to lower the transfer fee as they now incur greater risk over Balogun’s physical condition.

According to reports, Lyon winger Malick Fofana had agreed to join both Sunderland and Crystal Palace on multiple occasions each, but it is the Black Cats who are reportedly set to land the 21-year-old Belgian winger for $48.6 million including add-ons.

Jack Grealish is back at Everton for another season-long loan after his strong start to life on Merseyside was derailed by a broken foot in February. Grealish return to Manchester City this summer, but the Toffees have moved for the 30-year-old once again and handed David Moyes one of the Premier League’s most mercurial talents.

“I’m so happy,” he said. “I think I’m at my best at everything in life, not just football, when I feel loved. That’s what the manager has given me, what my teammates have given me and especially what the fans have given me. Every time I see an Everton fan, it’s just pure love and the way they’ve welcomed me since that first game against Leeds, I’ll never forget that.”

This is… a bit of a strange one, to be honest. First, Tottenham Hotspur wanted Cody Gakpo as the final attacking piece of their extraordinary summer transfer window, and then they wanted Iliman Ndiaye, who bears virtually no resemblance to Gakpo as a player, and now they’ve ended up with Mykhailo Mudryk, who hasn’t played football in nearly two years due to a doping ban.

Anyway, there’s a $101-million buy option in the loan agreement, which you think Spurs would be mad to pay considering all of the above.

As a result of Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton on the brink of falling apart, Monaco’s need to sale has become more desperate, thus the asking price for 22-year-old midfielder Lamine Camara has been reduced to $63.6 million, and that brought the Blues back to the negotiating table. With Enzo Fernandez on the brink of joining Manchester City, Chelsea have decided they need another midfield option.

Everton are unexpectedly scrambling around late in the window and it appears that they’ve made a move for Joshua Zirkzee.

With a $54 million move for Folarin Balogun hitting some complications, reportedly over his medical, a report from Sky Sports in the UK says that Everton have made an offer to Manchester United for Zirkzee.

It sounds like Everton are still trying to sign Balogun, but Zirkzee is a very good last-minute option if needed.

The path from Man United to Everton is one which is very well trodden.

Iliman Ndiaye has turned two top seasons at Everton into what is probably something of a dream move to Manchester City, and Everton have turned their initial $19-million investment into $88 million.

“I’ve worked my whole life for an opportunity like this,” he has said. “City are one of the best clubs in the world and I’ve seen them win everything as I’ve grown up. To be able to write my own chapter in a story that special is the chance of a lifetime and I’m determined to grab it with both hands.”

No official word on Jack Grealish yet, but he is still expected to be headed the other way.

Everton sent Beto to Fiorentina earlier on deadline day, leaving David Moyes with only Thierno Barry as an option at center forward for the moment. USMNT striker Folarin Balogun’s move from Monaco was all agreed, but he has reportedly failed his medical and the deal is suddenly in doubt. Suffice to say, Everton need to get something done.

However, the latest reports claim that Everton are still working to complete the deal and bring the 25-year-old to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

A quick roundup of just the last 30 minutes…

• Liverpool have officially signed 18-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Belgian side Genk for up to $40 million including add-ons. He is 6-foot-7 and not even the tallest ‘keeper currently in the Premier League.
• Sunderland have reportedly taken Tottenham Hotspur center back Kevin Danso on loan with an obligation to buy for $33.7 million.
• Leeds have reportedly reached a loan-to-buy agreement ($34.7 million) for 21-year-old winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya with Eintracht Frankfurt.
• Arsenal have officially loaned midfielder Ethan Nwaneri to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.

We are still awaiting official word on the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Jack Grealish, Folarin Balogun, Malick Fofana, Mykhailo Mudryk and Tosin Adarabioyo, but those aren’t the only deals in play in the final hours.

• Beto has officially left Everton and signed for Fiorentina ($19.7 million), perhaps paving the way for USMNT striker Balogun to move to Merseyside.
• Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has officially moved to Serie A (and UEFA Champions League) side Como. It is thought to be an initial loan with an option.

Multiple reports (see below) have confirmed that the transfer fee has finally been agreed between Chelsea and Man City for Enzo Fernandez.

The fee of just over $169 million means it equals the British record transfer fee.

Fernandez has reportedly been given permission by Chelsea to complete his medical and sign a contract with Man City.

There are some big deals developing but time is running out.

It looks like Everton, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Spurs are going to be busy late in the window.

Newcastle United have had a very good start to the new season, and they have added an eighth new player of the summer with Matias Fernandez-Pardo joining.

The Belgian forward, 21, is highly-rated and arrives from Lille after two very promising seasons in Ligue 1. He can play out wide or in attack and the Belgian international is very flexible.

After making so many new signings after selling the likes of Gordon, Tonali and Guimaraes this summer, Newcastle have a totally new look and feel to them.

All the vibes are very positive on Tyneside.

Millwall star Femi Azeez is heading to the Premier League, according to multiple reports.

Azeez was sensational for Millwall as they finished third last season but missed out on promotion to the Premier League in the playoffs.

The Nigerian winger is heading to the Premier League though, as Brighton are believed to have agreed a deal worth over $17 million for Azeez.

Yet another savvy signing by the Seagulls.

The latest reports state that Manchester City are making progress in talks with Chelsea over signing Enzo Fernandez for a reported $160 million.

All summer Fernandez has been linked with a move to City to play for his former boss Enzo Maresca and it looks like it could happen.

According to Sky in Italy, Fernandez is making plans to arrive in Manchester in the coming hours to seal the deal.

Lyon’s talented young winger Malick Fofana is a wanted man on deadline day.

And nobody quite knows where he will end up.

Fofana, 21, was linked with a possible move to Arsenal as they looked for back-up options at left wing.

However, it was then reported that Sunderland had agreed a $40 million fee with Lyon and Fofana was heading to the Stadium of Light.

But there’s been a big twist: several reports say that Crystal Palace have swooped in (insert Eagles pun banter here) and Fofana now looks more likely to end up at Selhurst Park.

Aston Villa continue to make signings galore, and they need them, and have spent over $100 million so far on deadline day.

They’ve add center back Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton for $40 million.

THB has been one of the top young English center backs in recent years and is the direct replacement for Ezri Konsa.

Ibrahim Mbaye, 18, has joined from PSG in a club-record fee of over $63 million and he is a huge talent.

Mbaye is one of the top young wingers in the game but his path is blocked at PSG and Villa have pounced.

After a summer of so many huge outgoings, Villa’s plan to rebuild their squad with a much younger core is in full flow.
