Arsenal passed yet another big test with flying colors on Wednesday, as the Gunners beat German giants Bayern Munich 3-1 at Emirates Stadium and now they are the only side with 15 of 15 possible points in the UEFA Champions League.

It was 1-1 at halftime after Jurrien Timber headed home a corner kick in the 22nd minute and 17-year-old Lennart Karl answered at the other end in the 32nd, at which Arsenal took the game over and completely dominated the second half. Riccardo Calafiori set up the winning goal in the 69th minute, seconds after coming off the bench, when he found Noni Madueke with a curling cross to the back post. Eight minutes later, Gabriel Martinelli beat Bayern’s backline, touched the ball around Manuel Neuer near midfield and scored from the edge of the box into an open net.
Arsenal (15 points) sit 1st in the Champions League table, well on their way to a top-eight spot and a bye from the first knockout round. Bayern (12 points) are 3rd after their first defeat in Europe this season.

Despite all of their injuries Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are flying and are fresh from a 4-1 hammering of Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby as Eberechi Eze grabbed a magnificent hat trick. Several players are just returning from injury, which is a huge relief for Arteta, but whoever he’s called upon to step in has done so admirably over the opening months of the season. Arsenal sit top of the Premier League table and have a six-point lead over second place Chelsea ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. But first up is a reunion with their old pal Harry Kane...
MORE — Harry Kane for Ballon d’Or?
Kane has been absolutely unstoppable for Bayern Munich this season, as Vincent Kompany’s side are unbeaten and have won 17 of 18 games in all competitions. Kane has scored 24 goals in 18 games for club and country as he bagged another in Bayern’s 6-2 win against Freiburg at the weekend. The Spurs legend will relish this return to north London to face his long-time bitter rivals and Kane is well-supported in attack with Michael Olise and Serge Gnabry in great form.
Arsenal team news, focus
Piero Hincapie played really at left-sided center back against Spurs as he stepped in admirably for the hugely important Gabriel, who is out injured for at least a few more weeks. Arteta could rotate things a little for this game as a huge clash is coming up against Chelsea on Sunday. Perhaps Myles Lewis-Skelly starts at left back with Riccardo Calafiori moving over to center back, while Ben White could start at right back and Cristhian Mosquera could start as well. Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli could get plenty of minutes, while there is probably no need to risk Martin Odegaard but he was back in training ahead of this game. Viktor Gyokeres will miss out but he is close to a return from injury, and so too is Kai Havertz.
Bayern Munich team news, focus
Luis Diaz, who has been superb since his summer arrival from Liverpool, is suspended for this game after his red card in the win at PSG last time out. Diaz scored a double in that game and his energy and direct running have been crucial to Bayern’s amazing start to the season. Bayern are hoping attackers Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl can shake off injuries for this game, while Michael Olise has been in incredible form supporting Harry Kane. The French international will enjoy coming up against his former Crystal Palace teammate Eberechi Eze in the Champions League and Olise has nine goals and nine assists already for Bayern this season. Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson could also be a threat off the bench.
Arsenal vs Bayern Munich prediction
This feels like it will be really tight but Bayern being able to rest plenty of players at the weekend, plus Arsenal having one eye on their trip to Chelsea on Sunday, may just give the German giants the edge. Arsenal 1-2 Bayern Munich.
