Barcelona 1-2 PSG: European champs grab stoppage-time win

Both sides were decimated with injuries for what should have been the premier clash of the league phase, but the French and Spanish giants still put on a show nonetheless. Marcus Rashford set up Ferran Torres for the opening goal in the 19th minute, playing a fantastic first-time pace into the box. That’s two goals and three assists in nine appearances on loan to Barca this season.

The lead lasted until the 38th minute, and again it was the assist that really stood out. Nuno Mendes went on a marauding run from left back, cut inside and found 19-year-old Senny Mayulu, who wriggled free and fired home from the edge of the box. Both sides had a handful of chances to take the lead after that, which PSG finally did at the end. Ramos got on the end of Achraf Hakimi’s curling cross and tucked it away right before the clock hit 90:00.

Barca are still without Raphinha and Gavi, while goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is also out too. Hansi Flick’s reigning La Liga champions have won six of their opening seven games of the league season and remain unbeaten. They also won at Newcastle in their opening Champions League game as Marcus Rashford has settled in well alongside superstars Lamine Yamal (ready to start after his recent injury), Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski.

PSG are missing Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele through injury, plus Desire Doue, Kvicha Kvaratskheliaand Marquinhos are also out. Luis Enrique’s reigning European champions have already lost to Marseille in Ligue 1 and it will be intriguing to see if PSG can repeat their treble win from last season. They hammered Atalanta 4-0 in their opening Champions League game and Enrique will relish this opportunity to go back to Barcelona and prove how good his side are, even with some key players missing.

Barcelona team news, focus

With Ter Stegen out in goal, veteran Wojciech Szczesny will once again step in to start. American youngster Diego Kochen is his back-up. Lamine Yamal should start as he steps up his return from injury, while Olmo and Rashford should support Lewandowski in attack. Barcelona’s defense and midfield is settled and we know they are going to go for it to try and prove a point to PSG that they are the favorites to win the Champions League this season.

PSG team news, focus

Dembele, Kvaratskhelia and Doue being out injured is huge. That means PSG are likely to start with Bradley Barcola and Goncalo Ramos in attack with Achraf Hakimi likely to be be pushed further forward to start on the right wing. Midfield is incredible with Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves pulling the strings and they will need to be at their best to try and control this game. All eyes will be on Lucas Chevalier in goal after his mistake allowed Marseille to beat PSG.

Barcelona vs PSG prediction

We should expect a goal-fest because both teams love to attack and just go for it. This is all about setting the tone for the rest of the competition and we should see fireworks. Barcelona 3-2 PSG.
