Early Look at Kansas City weather for MLS Cup 2013

KC weather

When Sporting Kansas City took down Houston to claim is spot in MLS Cup 2013 – in addition to its place as event host – the night set a record as coldest temperature recorded for a post-season contest.

Temperature at kickoff: 20 degrees.

It was hard to imagine something worse for MLS Cup, although it certainly can get gold in the heartland in late fall and winter. Still, it probably should not come as a complete shocker that early forecasts for this week’s MLS Cup do, in fact, call for something similar.

An arctic front is en route, expected to reach the Kansas-Missouri area by midweek. High temperature currently forecast for Saturday: 30 degrees.

Two things might keep Saturday’s match from being totally miserable: First, there is no precipitation in the forecast. Second, this year’s game kicks off at 3 p.m. locally. So, if there is any sun to be seen that day (and early reports say there may well be), then it will still be in the sky by kickoff. Temperatures may be in the 20s during the contest, but that won’t quite threaten the record set a week back.
