Both Sky Sports and BBC News have reported this morning that former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis will be elected manager at West Brom after the firing of Alan Irvine mere days ago.
The 56-year-old Pulis was named manager of the 2013-14 year at Palace following an 11th place finish at the end of the season, but decided to leave his post “by mutual consent” with the club’s board of directors.
Irvine was given the ax when he lost seven of the Baggies last nine Premier League games, leaving them at 16th place in the standings only one point away from relegation.
Supporters had vehemently begun to call for his departure as the squad’s form continued to remain questionable.
The Scotsman had coached the Everton youth academy for three years prior to being elected as boss at WBA this year, and although needing a fourth head coach in a year would suggest that player performances have lacked consistency, Irvine was apparently the man to blame.
Now, Pulis, who faced competition from Tim Sherwood for this opening, appears to have his fate sealed as the next head man at West Bromwich with a two-and-a-half year contract.
When battling West Brom on New Year’s Day, BBC Sport understands that Pulis will likely not be in action. In Saturday’s FA Cup match against Gateshead, though, he will have taken over managerial duties.
