Ronaldo welcomes Miroslav Klose into exclusive club

klose flip

On Saturday, Miroslav Klose gave new meaning to the phrase “impact sub.” The forward came on in the second half against Ghana, and after less than two minutes, banged in the equalizer for Germany.

Klose, now 36, attempted his trademark forward flip in celebration. Fortunately, no necks were broken, although the striker landing on his rear rather than his feet. Still, you could see why he’d want to mark the occasion: the goal was Klose’s 15th World Cup goal, stretched across four tournaments.

Not only did Klose bag a vital goal for his country, ensuring they stay top of Group G, but he also found himself part of an extremely exclusive club. In fact, it has only one other member. The Brazilian Ronaldo is the only other player to have notched 15 goals in World Cup tournaments. His goals stretched across just three Cups, beginning in 1998 and ending in 2006, when he scored three times.

But Ronaldo made sure to demonstrate that he wasn’t jealous of Klose sharing his spot at the top. The Brazilian legend tweeted:

(Welcome to the club, I can only imagine your happiness! What a great World Cup!)

If Germany make a deep run in this World Cup, Klose could very well have more opportunities to change games. If he winds up beating out Ronaldo for the top spot, will the dethroned forward be quite so charitable? Probably so, although he’d be forgiven for muttering under his breath a bit.
