Louis van Gaal didn’t want him, but was evidenced by the transfer fee Arsene Wenger authorized for Danny Welbeck, at least one smart mind in the Premier League values what the England international can bring to a club.
It’s a package that features pace, versatility, experience and, as was evidenced this week, goals, part of the reason Wenger hailed the deadline day deal as “ideal” for Arsenal.
“We’re short in numbers up front, and Danny Welbeck is an ideal signing for us,” Wenger explained in today’s media session. “He can play through the middle, where I think is his best position, but as well on the flanks ... His team attitude is what is very important for us, and his pace, as well.”
In addition to addressing Welbeck, Wenger also discussed the fitness of two of his other stars. According to the Arsenal boss, Theo Walcott is expected to resume training in two-to-three weeks, while the injury midfielder Aaron Ramsey suffered on international duty was described as a short-term one.
