West Brom 2-3 Leicester City: Huth, Vardy complete late Leicester comeback

A massive stoppage-time victory for Leicester City sees the Foxes pull just a point from crawling off the bottom of the table as Robert Huth equalized with 10 minutes to go and Jamie Vardy won it in added time on a counter attack to give the visitors all three points at the Hawthornes.

West Brom captain Darren Fletcher snagged his first goal for the club when he flicked on a corner at the near post, and it cut the ball into the net past a diving Kasper Schmeichel. Esteban Cambiasso was there to clear off the line, but goal line technology gave the goal and replays showed it was clearly the correct decision.

The lead didn’t last long as the home side maintained most of the meaningful possession but Leicester City hit back. A quick free-kick from their own half caught West Brom sleeping as it was pumped long by Cambiasso, finding Leonardo Ulloa who collected with his head at the top of the box and touched to David Nugent streaking by, and the 29-year-old poked the ball home to level the score.

The goals kept pouring in as West Brom snatched the lead back on yet another scrappy goal before the half-hour mark. A cross from the left wing came in and found the head of Brown Ideye, who instead of heading on goal nodded it back to an open Craig Gardner bang in the center of the box. Gardner lashed a volley on net, and it deflected off Wes Morgan and into the corner past Schmeichel.

Ulloa had a great chance to level three minutes before halftime but missed high after beating Jolean Lescott in the box. Halftime came and went, and a halftime tactical switch brought Leicester a positive start to the second half. West Brom still had a big chance, but Saido Berahino went for an ambitious shot, missing Gardner streaking through in acres of space on the other end of the box.

Leicester continued to hold most of the possession, but they created little across the hour mark. Finally, they appeared dangerous as West Brom became more and more defensive as the clock ticked towards 10 minutes to go. The Foxes would find the equalizer as a corner ping-ponged around the box and defender Robert Huth picked up the final ball to equalize.

West Brom looked to hold the ball and see the game out, but they would fall late. Leicester City would break after a clear, and Jamie Vardy went coast-to-coast down the left edge beating McAuley for the ball and Lescott in the box to power home a strike to the far post.

The victory pulls Leicester City just a point within Burnley at the bottom of the table, a second straight victory for a club that seemed to be dead in the water in the basement. Meanwhile, West Brom doesn’t seem to be in danger of falling to the drop but still do sit just seven points above the relegation zone and have been beaten by teams in the drop area two weeks in a row.
